Maybe this would be better off somewhere else but I'll give it a shot anyway.

I'm planning on going to work as an au pair in Spain and I was wondering what a resonable wage was. I've heard of Au Pairs getting €100 a week whereas the family I intend to go to are only offering €60. Do you think that they're chancing there arm a bit? I don't exactly expect €100 but a bit more would be nice. Anybody got any thoughts/knowledge?
Oh and anybody who has done it before; what are the do's and don'ts etc?

No knowledge of the Au Pair market in Spain or elsewhere but I'd suggest that the level of pay would depend on what kind of work agreement you have with the family and possibly the comparative cost of living of the town/city where they're based.

I know in Ireland you should pay an au pair minimum €100 per week, but Irelnad has a higher cost of living so I'd say you'd be lucky to get that in Spain. Au pairs just there for the summer months will earn less per week then those there for a full year.

I was an au pair in Germany 3 years ago, and I earned €70 per week, which was more then any of the other au pairs I knew in the same city. I think in Germany the minimum wage for au pairs was €60 per week in 2006 for a maximum of 35 hours, but I'm open to correction on that.

I would hazzard a guess that Spain would be similar. A website I used to use is au-pair-box.com and it has a forum, maybe you could ask someone in Spain for specifics on that.

Also if you look at the aupair websites eg. greataupair.com and eaupair.com I think most of the families advertising say what they are willing to pay, so from that you should be able to work out whats normal in the area in spain which you want to go to.
