Toyota Aygo

I am changing my '00 Ford Fiesta. I live and work in the same town and drive to the nearest large town at the weekends so my annual mileage is very low. My local dealer is Toyota so I am thinking of getting a '08 Aygo. It will cost €6,900 including the trade-in.

    Is it good value?
    Is the car any good?

    Thanks

I learned to drive in an Aygo (driving school car) so although I didn't have much to compare it to at the time, my observations still hold true now...Some things I noticed at the time were:
-Its VERY small and light - encountering a truck driving in the opposite direction was an interesting experience and I'd not like to be driving it on an open road or in bad crosswinds (both of which I have done) Also, the cabin appears pretty big and airy (well, bigger than it looks anyway) but it is pretty cramped. I'm only 6ft and I had the seat slid back to its limit and it was only just far enough back, definitely would not recommend it for anyone taller than me. This also had the effect that my head was almost level with the B pillar, so visibility was not as good as it might be...found myself looking around the pillar a bit. The pedals were also a bit close together for my liking - size 11 shoes - (but not quite as bad as a 206, say) When I was buying my own car, I test drove a 2000 Fiesta and felt much more comfortable in it, fwiw.

The flip side of its light weight is that its lively enough in the lower gears, and mostly fine in trafficed situation. Eases along in stop-start traffic effortlessly and very easy to find parking spaces for...
The driving instructor told me it was very economical to run too, despite a few rev-happy first timers. Its a Toyota, so should be reliable too.

Personally, I wouldn't give up a Fiesta for it, but if you're only running about town and aren't too tall, it might suit you just fine. Otherwise look at a Yaris maybe, if you're drawn to Toyotas?

The only real way to tell if this is a good deal is to go to one or two other Toyota dealers and see what they look for to trade up to a similar 08 Aygo. Don't limit yourself to one garage.

I priced around but couldnt get a better deal elsewhere. Back to same dealer and got it for €6,750.
    Happy driving :)
