I'm just wondering how 2 different stations in my local town can sell diesel for 88.9 yet every other station I see up and dow the country is selling for 96-ish.
For a bit of backround one of the stations has been bought by tesco (no planning permission for a station of their own but is not branded Tesco) and they are pretty much across the street from each other. The question I have is are these 2 stations cutting their own throats in a price war or could every station be selling at these prices?

(btw this is not a "rip off rant" as Im delighted to be paying even 96c compared to nearly 130, I'm just curious and I know there are people on here who can answer me (yes that means you Hammertime :)))

BTW these stations are in Birr Co. Offaly

I know those stations - one is at the entrance to Tesco's and the other is 100 yards down the road. Both have been very cheap for months now.

I drive through Birr a few times a week, and they are easily the cheapest on my drive. Yesterday morning they were 94.9(petrol) and 88.9(diesel). Compare that to the rest of the stations who were all around 103.9 for petrol and 96.9 for diesel (about 9 stations in all)

Birr seems to be the town to go to for cheap fuel though, and has been for sometime.
