Garmin 255W How to Update to Europe 2009

I bought a Garmin (Europe Version) 255W on 27 Dec. 2008 and it was delivered Jan 3 2009.
Probably switched it on for first fix that day of soon after.
However its well within the 60 days and when I plug it into PC it tells me there is an update available to City Navigator Europe 2009.
However it does not offer free upgrade but keeps insisting on payment of 70 off Stg.
I sent off an e-mail to Garmin but no response,
How to I get my free map update before its too late. ??
    Any pointers greatfully received.
    Thanks

Log into My Garmin and select myProducts tab and click on your device

You should see some info like mine below

    Product Name: nüvi® 760
    Registration Date: Oct 28, 2008
    Serial Number: *********
    Registration Code: ******
First Satellite Acquired: Mar 18, 2008

You get a free map update 60 days from the First Satellite Aquired Date.
If this date is before you bought the unit then I'd assume you need to talk to the retailer or Garmin about it.

My E-mail finally answered and on sending proof of purchase was allowed update to Garmin City Navigator Europe 2009 free of charge.
Its a much improved map and seems much more up to date.
    Thanks
