He's really annoying me lately, I hate the way he promised Jin he wouldn't bring Sun back because John would stop at nothing to get what he wants whether that means other people making sacrifices or not, like destroying the submarine, why are his needs to protect the island and himself so much more important than what everyone else wants, even if bringing everyone back and/or stopping people from leaving is indeed for some great purpose, he doesn't even know what that purpose is yet so who is he to decide what everyone does or does not do

I can see why people are starting to get sick of Locke but he's not really the problem for me. It's Jack, Kate, Sayid, etc. that are annoying me now. Ok, after 4 seasons it may be hard to keep up viewers interest in old characters but they did it well for 3 and a half series, and now they're just ignoring characters, so they can check off everything in their mystery to-do list. It's kind of annoying, because I love Lost and never had a problem with not getting answers. One of the reasons I loved the show in the beginning was, yes, the mystery, and wanting to find out what the hell is going on - BUT, more importantly the characters.

JACK - dull as ditchwater these days. I know people lost interest in him long ago, but I always liked him - being the herro - the leader of the camp, and doing anything to help his people. I even liked the Kate/Jack/Juliet storyline. Now he's just boring and annoying.

KATE - Haven't seen much of her this season, and what we have is *yawn*. Annoying whiny face. Used to love her flashbacks and the tension between her and Jack..meh..

SAYID - This guy went from hero to zero somewhere towards the end of season 4. I thought with his karate kicks a couple of episodes back he would bring back the old Sayid - now he's just being awkward and unnecessary. I think it was a mistake making him one of the O6. He's much better suited to the on-island action.

BEN - His mind games and manipulation were what made us all love to hate Ben. Maybe it's just me but he's been lacking substance and it's all very tedious. Used to love Michael Emerson's acting but now I just want to punch him in the face.

SUN - Sun's not suited to a cold hitwoman character. I can see where the writers are going - they don't want her to sit around moping about Jin for the rest of the series, but a more sympathetic Sun wouldn't go a miss. Would like to see more of her with her daughter. Not complaining too much though, cos I can see why she'd want to
    kill Ben

Even SAWYER - how many witty remarks have we got out of him this season? not enough IMO

It may seem like I'm whining a lot here but I could go on about Juliet, and even Daniels can be annoying at times. It just seems that Lost is losing one of it's most important qualities - the characters.

Despite my bitching, I'm actually enjoying this season. I like getting to know more about the history of the island, and sure we all want answers to the ultimate questions about Lost, but just think the writers are slacking a bit, that's all.

    Ok. Rant over!

Lock is Lost and i think the writers realize that. I think he rocks.

Jack and Kate on the other hand. Wish they killed Jack off in the first ep has planed.

The problem with Locke is that he's been basically running in circles for the last 4 seasons. One step forward, two steps back, etc. I think the writers know the ultimate arc of the character but have trouble find stuff for him to do in the interim. He's been little more than Ben's play-thing since they met in season 2.

I always liked Jack but unfortunately he hasn't had much to do this season. The writers also forgot to tell Matthew Fox that they were just skipping the whole junkie-Jack thing because the poor guy still trying to include it in his performance. He obviously missed the significance of him shaving off his beard which to a television writer means "everything is back to normal."

I think the writers tried too hard to give the O6 exciting off-island storylines. It doesn't suit any of the characters. Sayid is not Jason Bourne, Sun is not Lady Vengeance, and Kate, well, zzzzzzzz. The writers should have stuck to what they were good at: character-driven off-island b-plots about them getting over their ex-wife/father/whatever. All the fans would have pissed and moaned but f**k them. The biggest mistake the writers ever made was listening to the fans.

I disagree about Sawyer, he's been brilliant this season imo.

I love Juliet (or maybe just Elizabeth Mitchell) but they need to do an episode where every last secret is tortured out of her. I sick of the writers using her as a mouthpiece for whatever new retconned plot-point they come up with (Others speaking Latin, etc).

The more i think about it the more i find myself agreeing with this thread. There has been a definate and detrimental downturn in the quality of the character writing which is fast leaving me watching more for answers than an interest in story development. I havent been a fan of Locke since Ben became his puppetmaster, Julliet bores the hell outta me, Miles seems to have taken Sawyers role and Jack is just an annoyance

Locke's always been my favourite character, and I still like him, but I have found the direction his character has taken to be disappointing. I prefer Locke when he's struggling with his beliefs and not sure if what he's doing is right. I feel he's been a bit too sure of himself this season. I get the logic behind it, that he feels he has to be a leader, but sometimes leaders have doubts as Jack found out in the first two seasons.

I've always liked Jack so perhaps I'm in the minority. I would have liked there to be more tension between him and Ben like in previous seasons as he needs to be more of a leader figure, and for me this season he's been a bit too much of a sidekick. I've always liked Kate but the Aaron custody stuff hasn't caught my interest much.

Sawyer's always bugged me in previous seasons but I've found I've warmed to him this season. I wasn't a great fan of the scowling sinister Sawyer so that's probably understandable. I do think his dialogue has been pretty below-par though in contrast to other seasons. I liked Juliet in other seasons but I think her usefulness has ended without Jack. If they killed her off this season it wouldn't surprise me nor disappoint me.

Sayid was always one of my favourite characters but I agree he's become a bit too Jason Bourne-like in this season. I also agree that Sun isn't suited to her new role as the ruthless businesswoman. She's been too gentle in previous seasons to undergo such a transformation.

As for Ben, I still find the character engaging. I imagine they've got good stuff lined up for him so I think they're doing OK with him.

Ultimately I think the characters need to get back to the island as their progression is better suited there. Feels a bit like the calm before the storm at the minute I reckon. I suspect the O6 will improve back on the island.
