Would like some info on the following;-

if a person has been questioned in relation to an incident (on video footage so no doubt as to who did it) and the file is being sent to the DPP...how long will it take for DPP to decide on charges.

also, is it possible for the DPP to decide its not worth doing despite what we and the Gardai want ? the Gardai say it will be fine but we are worried that after a lengthy period of time, during which this 'person' has his freedom, that it will all come to nothing.

re civil action; any one know how much it costs to take a civil action against someone ?

    thanks!

You need to provide more specific information but I really wouldnt ask you to in the circumstances of a pending criminal prosecution.

Best to seek the advices of a solicitor.

the prosecuting garda should be able to answer all these questions for you. the garda (and state solicitor) are representing you in this case as you are the injured party and therefore consulting a solicitor in this instance could turn out to be a waste of money.

In my eyes, The DPP will do an investigation taking into account all the facts evidence forwarded to them.

I am not a legal person myself, but if I were you, I would contact Garda HQ and ask them for info (sometimes paper is so slow...), re the civil action my first point of call there would be the Free Legal Advice Centre an appointment can be booked through your local Citizen Advise Bureau.

just my two cents but if its a criminal case you'll prob wait min 6months maybe 12months before it arrives at the Circuit Criminal Courts...... any Civil Action you take will have to wait until after criminal proceedings ...... so talk to gardai and ask what the status is.

everything should be sorted within 18months (unless its a serious case where additional rehab/treatment is required - in this case you could be looking at several years)

    Just my two cents
