    Hi all,
    I'm looking into getting external storage for my laptop and PC. Just wondering if anybody here can recommend either NDAS or NAS. Don't want to break the bank so under €200 would be great.

    Thx Ger

    Personal use? Maybe just a HD on a USB cable? Or do you want to access via network? You can connect the HD to the PC via USB and share it?

    Cheers,
    I just want to store the drive away in closet and not have to hook up to laptop everytime I want to use it. Did some research and found out that NDAS does not communicate over the inernet (tcp/ip) where as NAS does. With Nas you can access the drive from work/holiday (any terminal) etc. Just wondering how secure NAS is and how fast. For now I think i'm heading in the direction of NDAS with raid

    Thanks for the Reply

    Ger

    Well if you want to be able to access it from anywhere (even from Internet cafés) you need to give it a static public IP.
    If you could list what you want to be able to do it'd be easier to see what solution would fit.

    Like:
    * Access from anywhere, even Internet.
    * >100Gigs
    * Connect to my existing router which is a ...
    * ......

    A suggestion: Connect an external HD to your PC with USB and use www.remotepc.com or www.gotomypc.com or similar to access your PC from outside your network. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1909919,00.asp
    If you share the external HD on the PC you should be able to access it from the wireless laptop from inside your network.

    Note: I don't support any of those sites, there are plenty out there if you google.

    Thanks Biko,

    A couple of options there i didn't realise I had. I think a 500gig HD will be needed as I take a lot of photos (in RAW format). I also want to be able to download photos to the drive when I'm a way on trips etc. I'll have a look at those sites and take it from there.

    Again thanks for your help.
