New car needed...

so after 270,000 miles, a hole in the floor, no radio, heater broke, windowscreen washer pump not what it was, locks not working, brakes that would be better if i used a stick rubbing against the ground and only a top speed of 75mph ( taking about what feels like 20 minutes to get there!!!) i think its time to get a new motor.....

i said id drive this van for one year for the no claims bonus which is also up so it all points to a new car

I have around 3 - 5 grand to spend im looking for a nice motor that is good for long trips... im looking at a few different cars at the mo.. what i am asking is what people think of them and which is the best...

1st choice is a: skoda octavia vrs 1.8T looks comfortable yet nice and quick...

2nd is a subaru impreza... but it looks like i would have to go for the 1.6 so this is on the lower part of my list..

3rd is audi A4... also has its problems with the only cars most likely in my budget is the old shape and i dont like it.... ( i think its 2002 on wards that i like the look of)

4rd is mg ZS... i was just looking through carzone and it looks nice... ( anyone have experience living with one?)

what do people think with my budget? im most likely going to do is buy it now and then drive it into the ground due to this recession..

Decent looking car, comfy (especially on long distances), nice enough to drive, no slouch and no drinker either , cheap to buy, lots to choose from.

You'd get a diesel MG ZS for nothing in the UK, petrol models have head gasket problems and other little niggles, while the diesel is very reliable and has plenty of poke, 50mpg too.
