Do you have any proof of purchase? That should (maybe) be enough if you're stopped. You can then show the disk at the station.

The Garda can check over the radio if you have Insurance or not on the "Pulse" Garda System.

The Garda cannot check over the radio if you have insurance, PULSE does not have an insurance database.

The information is taken from the national vehicle file when a cars tax is renewed. so if a car is sold on or owners change the insurance details presented on time of taxing are not accurate.

Garda can demand you produce your insurance certificate at a nominated Garda Station within ten days- that should cover you.

You should listen to the Garda frequency now and then and you would swear the Gardai have this information.

If my reg was called across the radio to be checked it would come back saying its registered to

    Mr XX XXXX
    address: XXXXX
    Insurance Nov 09
    Tax Non 09
    Catalouge Clear

I wonder how the Garda sitting in front of the computer can accurately assess whether insurance is on the vehicle or not or are they just making it up as they go along?

They defo have Insurance details. I sat earlier doing some work with it in the background and she was clearly reading back Insurance details.

oh i know they have the info i listen also but alot of the info does be out of date and there is no implications to the person being stopped so i presume its only updated when they renew tax i renewed my tax in janurary and i used my insurance policy number which expires tomorrow so i imagine thats the only info they have on pulse

There has been an intention for years to allow the Guards access to the MIBI DB, this may have happened.

Doubt it has happened due to data protection, if garda want info from ins company, they have to request it in writing now ;)

My insurance policy terms and conditions states they may share data with 'recognised trade, governing and regulatory organisations'; I would suspect that the Guards fall under this and that nearly every policy will contain this.

Berty, thanks for the advice. You obviously know more than i do and i go to work everyday and talk into the radio that you are eavesdropping on!:p

I will say it again, insurance details on pulse are only those presented at the motor tax office when taxing your car, therefore are not entirely accurate for the date observed.

However, the new ANPR cars have a database provided by the MIBI for uninsured cars.

You have ten days to place a disc on your window from the date of authentication (purchase) of the certificate. You cannot be prosecuted until the ten days runs out.

Not yet. Our one still runs off PULSE. New database not up and running yet so still relying on tax office on renewal
