Bit of a random one this,

What is the min weight gloves you can use for competition ITF sparring?

I've googled this and got very mixed answers.

My guess is that it's 8oz, I remember most people using TOP TEN 8oz gloves but I may be mistaken.

It's a massive grey area. The whole rule set of ITF Taekwon-Do is infact a grey area. It is deemed as light contact continuous, but they use a semi contact glove, you use semi-contact gloves but you can hit exceptionally hard, so it is really a mine field.

The 'official' line hower is that the glove used is to be the open hand semi-contact glove, the one used for stop start points sparring.
There has been talk of the 10oz closed glove being used in the future, but at this moment it is only talk.

10 once gloves and headguards should be mandatory IMO. Crappy semi contacts gloves can be quite dangerous.

Tim is wise beyond his rapidly advancing years. We used to use 4-6 ounce barely padded gloves that were open invitations to black eyes and bloody noses. In the Irish Open IIRC 10oz were mandatory, its the only way to go.

The sport of kickboxing is alot safer imo. As has been pointed out, 10oz are mandatory, and so are hand and wrist wraps, head guards and gum shields.
In ITF head guards and gum shields are not mandatory.

Exactly, how can you throw a hook semi contact? The funny thing is aswell I remember side kicking and cut kicking people as hard as I could, semi-contact my ars3.

I remember I had two set of gloves, One really crap set that were basically like bin liners with some cotton wool and were open whereby you could open and close your hand. I also had a closed first set, they're hidden away somewhere now but I cant remember if the inside was material or if it was a complete glove. They were TOP TEN red ones that really everyone had in tournaments, I think they must have been only 8oz.

That's the way of it alright, why I'm not so sure. I nailed quite a few people with back-kicks back in the day and I doubt I ever got an 'excessive contact' warning for it.

I remember being at a comp in Belgium years ago and 3 of the Irish ended up in hospital! 2 due to getting caught very hard with back kicks and having ribs broken! My recollection was that there was no excessive contact warning but I can't fully remember.

The excessive contact doesn't seem to come into the equation with kicks much compared to hands. Some heavy punches exchanged and they will step in quick enough, but different for kicks - one time I got caught by a big turning kick to the head (made me see stars!) by a monster German guy and no one even blinked!
