Sky Box Help

    Hi

One of our three sky boxes has gone - with the impressive 'no satellite signal is being received' message. Now I know form previous experience that Sky will charge for an engineer visit so I am just wondering how easy are they to fix?

I am presuming either the box itself or the cable is whacko - I am going to do a switch with a working box to see if I can work out the problem.

I assume this is a common problem - is there an obvious fix?

Well you're doing things the right way by switching a working box for the kaput one (you could also switch the suspected faulty box into the place of a known working box to see if it works at the different location). If the other box works, thens you'll know you have a faulty box.

If not, then you have a cable problem. Check that the connection into the back of the box is tight. Then (if you can get to it) check the connections at the satellite dish to make sure that one of them hasn't worked loose or is corroded.

If that fails, then you'll have to contact the folks at SKY for a repair. You could get a quote first as it might be cheaper to get a replacement box from ebay.

I got the same message last Firday. I rang sky and they guided me through changing some transponder settings and all ok now. Didn't need an engineer.

What you mean is a call centre 'agent' told you how to mess about with some menu settings and, by pure chance, that got your box up and running again.

Tried the call centre and like Rhonin it worked after tweaking some transponder settings - happy for now.

That Satcure website looks good for all sorts - cheers everyone.

I rang SKY technical support and they got me to do some checks and were able to source the problem and resolve it. In fairness to person I was talking to she knew her stuff. It wasn't by pure chance they got it running.

Have to agree with Rhonin - the guy I was talking to seemed to know what he was on about - I have never had a problem with Sky CS (well at least not one that one that wasn't solved after some ranting on my behalf).
