Spanish operators to share in-building FTTH infrastructure Friday 13 February 2009

Spanish telecommunications regulator CMT has released new regulations that require the first operator that deploys a fibre optic network inside a building to share all infrastructure elements in or near the building with other operators that wish to offer FTTH services to their own end-users at a later date. Whatever technical solution chosen by the first operator in cabling a building for FTTH, it must be possible to share it with other operators and to guarantee that all residents can benefit from FTTH services offered by other operators. Operators will have to reach reciprocal agreements to enable network sharing within four months following the request. The regulator will only intervene in case of disputes.
