Would I bother applying for JA/JB?

    My situation:
Offer part-time job about 25hrs/week, income €270 per week, paying PRSI since three years.
Wife working fulltime, earning €410 per week

Would I qualify for any of these social welfare payments? Doesn't seem to be any case scenarios on the welfare.ie web site to calculate whether you are eligible or not.

    Thanks.

How many days a week do you work?

Depends on a lot of factors. To be honest, you are better off ringing/calling into the local welfare office on one of the unemployed days.

The major factor is the following:

"If you normally work full-time but short-time working is introduced on a temporary basis. You will continue to pay PRSI in the normal way. If the short-time work involves a three-day week, you may get Jobseeker's Benefit for the other two days, provided you meet the other relevant conditions that apply to Jobseeker's Benefit. In this situation, the social welfare week is five days and you will get two-fifths of the normal amount of Jobseeker's Benefit."

So, did you start in this job on reduced hours? Or have you had full time hours up until recently? Who is instigating the reduced hours? Yourself or the company?

If it is your own choice, or a work sharing arrangement, payment will not be authorised.

    Also you need

"39 weeks PRSI paid or credited in the relevant tax year 2007

    Or

Have 26 weeks PRSI paid in the relevant tax year and 26 weeks PRSI paid in the tax year immediately before the relevant tax year.
    "

I would doubt that you would get Assistance on the above description, given that your wife is also working full time. But Benefit should be ok..if you were working full time in 07-06.
