03 Fiat Punto - Engine Control System Failure

    Hi all

Recently a warning light appeared on the dashboard and when I looked it up in the manual it said it was 'Engine Control System Failure' - apparently a fault in the Supply / Iginition System. It said the car was safe to drive - only increased emissions etc but prolonged driving would put pressure on the engine and I should get it looked at by a Fiat Garage.

Next time I was in the car, the light did not come on and has not come on since.....

Question is should I go ahead and get it looked at or the fact that the light has not come on since, is it OK to ignore it?

    Thanks

you would need to get it looked at

my wifes 97 Punto had problem with the coil packs a few times and caused the light to come on....it could be something small.

Is the engine still running ok?

Car is still running fine..........i was thinking the fact that the light came on just for a short time but has not come on since, that maybe it was OK to carry on without bringing it to a garage.......

If the light stayed on I would bring it in ASAP, but was just hoping to save a trip to the garage if its not necessary.

I have a 2002 Punto and the yellow Engine Control System Failure light came on tonight. I was wondering did you get the problem looked at by a garage? Did your car shudder at all when waiting at lights or at a standstill?

sounds exactly like what ive had a few times in my Skoda! Ignition coils I think!

Take it to the garage - even an independant one, as they can hook it up to a computer and run a test.
