Senior Finals predictions

Any predictions for next Friday finals. I didn't include the 48Kg division as Paddy Barnes has a walkover. I've included the 91+ final between the two Joyce brothers but apparently that will be a walk over two as they won't fight each other so will probably toss a coin.

By the way if your not going to the Stadium some of these will be shown from 9 to 11 on Rte 2 next Friday night.

51Kg: Conor Ahern (Baldoyle) v Declan Geraghty (Dublin Docklands)
54Kg: John Joe Nevin (Cavan) v Ryan Lindberg (Immaculata)
57Kg: David Oliver Joyce (St Michael's Athy) v Carl Frampton (Midland)
60Kg: Ross Hickey (Grangecon) v Eric Donovan (St Michael's Athy)
64Kg: John Joe Joyce (St Michael's Athy) v Philip Sutcliffe (Crumlin)
69Kg: Willie McLoughlin (Illies Golden Gloves) v Cathal McAuley (Dungloe)
    75Kg: Stephen O'Reilly (Twintowns) v Darren O'Neill (Paulstown)
81Kg: Kenny Egan (Neilstown) v Tommy McCarthy (Oliver Plunkett)
91Kg: Con Sheehan (Clonmel) v Alan Reynolds (St Joesphs Sligo)
91+Kg: Joe Joyce (Moate) v David Joyce (Moate)

51Kg: Conor Ahern - Think it could be close though, Geraghty has done well so far

54Kg: John Joe Nevin - Lindberg's good but Nevin if his head is right is so bloody elusive

57Kg: Frampton - I like Davy Oliver, great to watch but he does blow hot and cold and Frampton is in great form. I reckon he could pull off a bit of a shock here.

60Kg: Ross Hickey - Should be a good un but I reckon Hickey will come out on top

64Kg: John Joe Joyce - Joyce easy, too classy and experienced for Sutcliffe

69Kg: Willie McLoughlin - Should be easy for McLoughlin if he keeps his head. Definitely one to watch for the next few years

    75Kg: Darren O'Neill - O'Reilly's decent but O'Neill should walk this.

81Kg: Kenny Egan - Too early for McCarthy and I think Egan will be looking to put down a marker. I can see him stopping young Tommy.

91Kg: Alan Reynolds - Another interesting one but think all Reynolds international experience will be the difference in this one. Good to see him back, great character.

91+Kg: David Joyce - Looking like it won't happen but would go with David if it did. Joe still a bit raw at senior level although

I'll go with Aherne, Nevin,Joyce (best stylist of the lot), Hickey, Joyce,
    McLoughlin, O'Neill, Egan, Con Sheehan

    My picks are

Geraghty, Nevin, Joyce, Donavan, JJJ, McLoughlin, O'Neill, Egans, Reynolds

    Potential upsets

Sutchliffe - He has a bit of power if he gets close enough to let the body shots go

McCarthy - Young and no fear and well placed confidance altho he will need the fight of his life

Saved me typing them out.......they're the same as I'd have gone with.

Lindberg could be the one to pull off a shock, class fighter.

I'll take Con Sheehan also to do a job on AR.

Cathal McCaluey is a class act at 69kg for him , framptos and joyce will be a cracker. Reylonds wins heavy and young phil is the biggest banger in any weight but he's up agaisnt a big lad thats class, but ya never know he has the one punch bang not many people have.

Frampton wins a sensational scrap. Really amazing. These two would both KO a certain PRO:D

The scoring was a disgrace, as in, both landed so many and no scores.
I had a feeling this would have been fight of the tournie

    Super

Just listening to Egan now; he's still on about hime deserving
the decision. I'm sick of him at this stage

    Only 2 wrong.

Have to say it was an excellent nights boxing. The new 3 mins rounds make the fights much more exciting.

Sutcliffe was class.........new his game plan.......was on jjj like a cheap suit from the off........didnt throw a right to head till he put him down........exceptionaly strong kid.......has a very big future in boxing.

Framton was excellent too......looked very strong and compact........its was a great scrap.

Young Geraghty was very classy........the computer really suits his style.

Reckon we will wipe the floor with the yanks next week.......Come on the irish :D

Anyone know how I can view last nights boxing on the rte website? the only prob when ya watch the event live ya dont see the slow mo's at the end of every round.............great atmophere last night though.

Well, a great nights boxing. I only got
    five right. Some great action.

My surprise talent was Reilly in the
75 kgs. He was brilliant despite the loss.

Framton was awesome, as was Joyce.
It was the best display I have seen from
TWO Irish guys in an amateur ring. Superb, and the
key IMO was Frampton's more damaging shots. The KD
shot and the left hhok just before it did not score, disgraceful

Now to the STAR; Sutcliffe was superb and showed real CHARACTER
to come back and beat Joyce after being soundly beaten
previously. He showed real power and finishing ability. Joyce is a class
figheter too, which makes the win even better. Phil is a small
looking guy at 64 kgs and was maybe 3 inches shorter.

I hve a feeling thse two will be in a fw more great bouts. Joyce
has the tools to always win on points, but Phil has the
    punch.

Sheehan did very well to take all Reynold's shots and finsih so
strongly. I do believe RD 3 was almost 4 minutes long.

Sutcliffe would make a super pro I reckon

it was a great nights boxing. Hopefully the match against USA on friday is as good

Now a few things i have heard since the finals

IABA is not impressed with the amount of High performance squad members that were knocked out or finished runners up and want to have a box off to determin the team to go to the world championships in September in the hope that the likes of JJJ , David Oliver Joyce ect win and get picked for the championships..........which i think is wrong]

]Philip Sutcliffe is going tom turn pro and be promoted by Phil snr in the next few months and was in fact going to a few months back but decided to give the seniors one last go........IMOP if he did meet JJJ again joyce would win on points i think that was Philips moment in the sun if you like and it would not happen again

Jamie Kavanagh is going to stay around for 1 more year then head the states to turn pro.........apparently he is good friens with Dean Byrne who is based over there

Obviously these are just roumours but the lad who was telling me this is fairly in the know

    Any thought on these

As far as I know this was already decided before the weigh ins for the seniors........so dont think anyone can have any qualms with this.

As the previous poster said about Phil gonna be a great pro........i totally agree.......you dont see that many knock outs in the amateur game.......and when you do you know someone has real power.........phil sutcliffe has real power.......believe me........i have seen him box since he was a nipper and he is very good........i know his dad would like to see him at london 2012 but not sure they will stick around till then.

Not sure about jamie turning pro..........the amateur points system really suits his style........would prefer to see him keep the vest on.

Thats fair enough so once it had been decided before hand...means we get 2 more night of good fights

Has phil always hit hard. I cant remember him stoppping many as a junior or in last years seniors. Is it just in the last year or so since he became more a man than boy body wise

I agree about jamie he has progressed nicely and by the time 2012 comes about if he keeps learning and gets so international fight as a senior under his belt i reckon he could have a shout at getting to the olympics

Glad to here phil turning pity he ain't gonna to the states , they'd love him over there. He's been a big banger since he's 17 i've sparred him at that age and was by far the biggest puncher i've ever been in wit. This guy can bang two years ago in inters he sparked two guys in a row.
Jamie's a great lad lovely combi puncher and think he's develop into a great pro hope they both do well there two sounds lads.
Think the box off thing is **** but it like that a while now.

actually I'm not happy about it - I think he should try his hand at the EU championships and/or push for the AIBA worlds - and then turn

Was talking to a relation of Phil's yesterday, he is not turning pro anytime soon, he will hopefully be representing ireland at the world champs this year.
