I decided to take the girlfriend surfing at the weekend, Anyhow in between looking for her hair brush and playing with her iphone she managed to lock my car keys in the boot.. The car was open, the boot was locked with the keys inside and i was standing around in a wetsuit (clothes in the boot) Anyway we got it sorted when a mate brought me the spare key from home.

I find it very strange that you are unable to unlock the boot from the inside, the car wasn't locked. A mates 01 E46 M3 has a button down by the bonnet release however mine has no such thing. I've checked the manual and there's nothing in it about this. Mine is a 05 320 coupe. Has anyone else had this experience? seems a strange design feature to me..

    thanks guys
    SD

You can fit the remote boot release button - its fairly cheap.

You must have the boot deadlocked. Otherwise, all you had to do was press the unlock button beside the hazards and the boot would have opened.

There are two settings on the boot lock. You have have the boot lock independently of the rest of the car depending on which way you turn the key in the boot lock.

My 01 e46 compact has one, perhaps it was an option?

It appears to be deadlocked somehow. The button by the hazzards won't unlock the boot ragardless of if its is disconnected from the car security or not. The only way of opening it is with the button on the key or by manual using the key.

Theres a button to open it just where the reg plate lights are. The only E46 without it is the CSL - and having a CSL lid on my M3 means I'm more than aware of its limitations!

If the button on your lid isn't working, get the car into a dealer.
