    Hi,
Looking for help for a friend!
His car,a Volvo S70 petrol has no problems starting when its cold.Drive it a mile and park it and then try and start it and not a hope.
It will start again after two or so hours have passed.
It has been serviced two months ago by a vovlo dealer and passed its nct without any issues.
    Its a 1998 with a 100k miles.
The car runs smoothly other than this problem. This problem never occured until the last month but has frequently since.
Any advice as to what the problem is and what to do about it would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    hi,

Does this only happen with a short trip ?. If so try the following as the engine may be flooded ( daft i know but have been caught once or twice with this in my 850's and and once in my s70).

When restarting press accelerator to the floor and keep cranking this procedure cuts off the fuel supply for a period of time and burns whats left , engine will be a be lumpy but should fire up very quickly.

I have been told that this is due to the Volvo fuel Management systems makes the mixture very rich ( particularly with the cold weather we've just had ) but if turned off before the mixture level has reset the engine floods.

you can also try the volvo owners web site

    http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=16

let me know if this helps

Thanks for the repies to this.Passed on allthe info and the were grateful.

the car did this once more then it started fine after a short trip and has been fine since.
A long drive strangley sorted it but the advice has been taken and will be used if it happens again though it seems to have sored itself after a long drive.

    the help was great,thanks again
