We only lost by a point in the end. Not too bad I suppose but still sickened and that was only half a team we had out.

I was at the match too and I thought both sides were fairly bad to be honest.

I wouldn't take either performance as an indication of things to come as the league and championship progresses.

Yeah poor enough from both sides though Limerick should have won by 4 or 5. They missed a good few easy enough frees.

Kilkenny still have about 8 of last years team missing.

Any word on how Brian Hogan is? It will be a big blow if he has a broken ankle as that would be 1st and 2nd choice full back injured.

Looking forward to the portumna v Ballyhale on Sunday :)

One of these days I'll get used to the sight of Justin McCarthy in Limerick colours!

How's he done so far in terms of his selections? Anything out of the ordinary compared to previous years?

Just incase anyone is having sympathy for KK dont they still have Carickshocks Tennyson to play full back and the guy is pure class, he's a better FB than Hogan IMO who is a better half back than FB

Yeah but he had been playing CB....What will probably happen is JJ Delaney moving to FB with Tennyson continuing at Centre Back. This he's a better CB than FB anyway.

You better get used to it Deise cause you'll be seeing plenty of pictures of him in the paper come June after knocking ye out of the championship:P

Eh he has moved seamus Hickey out to wing back and Gavin O'Mahoney has got his chance this year at centre back. A few new players in different positions like Paul Browne, Tom Condon and Steven Walsh.

We were missing Mark Foley, the Moran brothers, Mike Fitz, Denis Moloney, Brian Geary and Donal O'Grady this weekend so Justin seems to be doing just fine.:D

Y'know I laughed hard at the poster above, but Brownie actually thinking Limerick are actually going to beat us in June had me in stitches :D

The irony in that statement isn't lost on me ;) Waterford have had numerous chances at All Ireland victory in the last decade, i feel their chance has gone. I do think Limerick will beat them in June, the Déise will come to regret ousting Justin the way they did.

On a side not, great to see Paul Browne getting his chance in the Limerick senior squad, Bruff's one man hurling machine. My father saw him play in the intermediate final last year and came home raving about him! Also great to see Gavin Moloney get his chance, he's pure class, all round hurler, will be better than Foley in the years to come

Havent had a chance to see Limerick yet this year. Great to hear theres lots of young bucks coming through, bodes well for future. I always liked Justin McCarthy. Good to hear hes travelling out past Patrickswell looking for players too. :D

Well I'm not going to disagree with Justins predentials as a manager that's for sure. The man was our most successful manager since 1959 after all. But I still think we're in a better position now with Davy Fitz than had we decided to hold onto Justin for yet another year. His time was up, these things happen.

Limerick certainly couldn't have got a better man for the job though.

Indeed sometimes a change is needed to get a team going again if they are stagnating. I'm glad Fitz stayed with Waterford after all the specualtion after the AI Final. He really needs to stay with them for a few years. I couldnt see anyone else coming in doing a better job than he did anyway. Hopefully Justin McCarthy will bring Limerick to the next level.

And I've no doubt he can*. There are startling similarities between the Waterford team of 2001 he inherited and the Limerick team of 2008.

*just not at our expense of course!
