Settings for 3Rock in a DVBViewer ini file.
Rename from .txt to .ini to use in DVBViewer or just open it in notepad to take the info yea need

But the whole point of the way Digital Terrestrial is done you don't need any of this information ever.

IF you do, install PROPER PC software or take the setbox to the recycling centre as it's rubbish.

This is for preinstalled channel lists. As I am only covered by one Tx I cant search for the other transmitters but I can set it up in the stb's PC channel editor if I have these settings.

From what I can see there are no changes from Tx to Tx bar the frequency.

I agree that you should just be able to scan the frequencies for your local muxes and the box or PC software should do the rest. As slegs says, he is building predefined lists for customers who want to plug in and go basically. I don't think it's quite so useful in a terrestrial context as you cannot guarantee what transmitter the user is going to point at. Also, if any of the PIDS etc change or a new mux comes on stream, then the user is going to have to scan anyway.

I posted elsewhere about an issue I was having with the Greystones relay (haven't checked on Three Rock) where two Network IDs (8564 and 12801) were being used in the stream. The NIT has Network ID 12801, The SDT has 8564 and the EIT has 12801. DVBviewer was using 8564 automatically from the SDT and was then having problems locating the EPG data - basically saying there was no EPG. From discussions with the developers it would seem that in their view the transmission stream is in error and should have consistent Network IDs. I have sorted the problem for now by hard-coding 12801 as the Network ID in DVBviewer. Should I be notifying someone in RTENL about this or is it ok? I'm not familiar enough with the protocol to judge for myself.

Mmmmm - I would have thought the idea of testing was to get the "bugs" out:confused:Should RTENL not be adhering to standards or does anything go?

They are only testing and setting up transmission gear. The TS origination is a separate issue.

There is no particular reason why anything usefull should be on it right now.

At this stage slegs, you can see that it's the same parameters for all the transmitters!

The Greystones relay is also announcing its frequency in the datastream as 738MHz (as per Three Rock), even though the RF is on 722Mhz.

As watty says, maybe we have to wait until the service is live before the parameters can be relied on;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭slegs

Thanks Tony. Yes, same parameters all round. Some people like to have the box setup for them ready to go even if it is a small task. It is not a big deal to do a rescan if things change.

12081 is the Network ID (NID) but 8564 is the Original Network ID (ONID). From what I can see it's nothing peculiar for the two to be different, although certainly in the case of DVBViewer won't work when it scans the NID as 8564.

A dreambox with a DVB-T tuner will show the full EPG (but no picture) and in that case the channel parameters shows the ONID as 8564.

We did try to use a PC channel editor to force the correct NID into a Globalteq which doesn't display the EPG, but the software editor is buggy and writes a null value to the file.

Regarding the DVB-T Frequency in the NIT - both Mullaghanish and Spur Hill both show this as 738MHz, so the main feed must be retransmitted unaltered.

Might be worth starting a separate thread on this.

Thanks for coming back Apogee. I had a Globalteq HD Combo for a while and it displayed the EPG ok. I actually preferred the UI on it to the Mvision 200 Combo, but it didn't support the external disk drive so it had to go!

Interesting that the Three Rock frequency (738 MHz) info is propogated around the network. Obviously no local processing of the datastream at the transmitters.

Watty has a view that the discrepancies in the datastream are not worth debating until the system goes live, so maybe there's no point:confused:

Were you using the original firmware on the Globalteq when it displayed the EPG? And were you receiving the signal from 3 Rock or elsewhere at the time?

Sure if you took that attitude, you could close 90% of the threads on there :D

I was getting the signal from Three Rock and from Greystones on the Globalteq - not original firmware (which was over a year old!), I had downloaded the so-called PVR version - which I thought was a bit unstable, then I finally stuck with the September 08 release as far as I can remember.

gtg60 has a Globalteq (I think) and an Mvision combo - so he can confirm if the EPG is ok, perhaps?

I think I'll research the DVB standards a bit more before I start asking awkward questions about the datastream content:D

Apogee (see above) had a problem with a Globalteq which wasn't displaying the DTT EPG. Thought you could confirm EPG working ok.

Ok, interestingly enough my Mvision is displaying the EPG for both Three Rock and Greystones but my Globalteq is only displaying it for Three Rock, Greystones has no EPG info at all.

Aha, that was what I suspected might happen! I think the fact that the NIT is showing the DVB-T Frequency as 738 MHz, which is only true if you are receiving the signal from 3 Rock, may be confusing some receivers. I wonder if this is in turn is linked to fat-tony's observation regarding the NID/ONID values?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,855 ✭✭✭Apogee

They seem to have made some changes to data stream, notably a change in the PAT version, which has fixed many of the EPG issues.

    Old PAT
    3353833737_5321b6747d_o.jpg

    New PAT
    3411477331_cc914bfeec_o.jpg

    Old NIT
    3354667496_fb02bf2cd7_o.jpg

    New NIT
    3411477821_bc3407632b_o.jpg

Strangely DVBViewer now correctly scans 12081 as the NID but I have to manually change it to the ONID value of 8564 before it displays the EPG info.
