Lord of Kobol...... Mithras

I came across this page about the lords of Kobol and it's a fascinating read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lords_of_Kobol

    I'll explain here.......

The Lords of Kobol are said to have lived among the people of Kobol. I always assumed that they were God like figures and not actual physical beings. Apparently not. There was said to be a feud between the Lords and one Lord was forced to leave Kobol because of his beliefs of an all powerful God/or that he was an all powerful God. I used to believe there were only 12 but now I think there were 13 and the 13th was exiled from Kobol.

This exiled Lord is most likely the last Lord on the list, Mithras.

Mithras - a deity mentioned in "Escape Velocity" as being worshiped by a sect who apparently believed Mithras was the one and only god. Baltar's monotheistic sect is compared to the "Followers of Mithras". Whether or not Mithras was accepted as one of the Lords of Kobol however, is uncertain.

So if Mithras believed in a GOD and was sent from Kobol, I believe Mithras and his followers are the 13th tribe. They found Earth and settled there. It stands to reason that his followers were cylon.

The real thing that peaked my interest was the definition of the word DEITY.

Deities are depicted in a variety of forms, but are frequently expressed as having human or animal form. Some faiths and traditions consider it blasphemous to imagine or depict the deity as having any concrete form. They are usually immortal, and are commonly assumed to have personalities and to possess consciousness, intellects, desires, and emotions similar to those of humans. Such natural phenomena as lightning, floods, storms, other 'acts of God', and miracles are attributed to them, and they may be thought to be the authorities or controllers of various aspects of human life (such as birth or the afterlife). Some deities are asserted to be the directors of time and fate itself, to be the givers of human law and morality, to be the ultimate judges of human worth and behavior, and to be the designers and creators of the Earth or the universe. Most have multiple arms or heads.

That whole section had me thinking of characters in the show that could fit that description.

Kara Thrace and Gaius Baltar jump out immediately. Kara could be immortal and the director of time and faith. Gaius could be attributed with Acts of God.

In a final piece of information I found on Mithras its said that he was the Third Messenger sent to help and redeem Mankind. Also that Mithras was the mediator between Man and the supreme God of the upper and nether world. A popular piece of artwork also shows Mithras being born (fully grown) from the centre of an egg shape surrounded by the 12 signs of the Zodiac. This image could be seen as a ressurrection tank image!

Again I am torn between two descriptions which describe both characters.

The Third messenger sent to help and redeem Mankind - Kara Thrace has apparently died twice now which would make this her third "life".

Mediator between Man and god - If that does not describe Baltar then what does.

Could any of this be a clue to the faith of these characters on the show?
Or could this be the answer to "Who was the Hybrid on the ship that Kendra destroyed?"
Is he Mithras, the Lord of Kobol who believed he was a God? His last words about dying were that he would begin a new life in ways unknown (see the deity explanation again).

I think I mentioned this (well, similar to it) before, although not in as much detail or as well thought out as your post:
So then we are told that the final 5 are unknown to the 7, they don't exist in the fleet and it seems that there is a link to earth and the 5 because the temple of jupiter was "created by the 5 to worship the one" possibly the Fallen Lord of Kobol who may or may not be the Cylon God. Maybe Starbuck is the Cylon God, I guess anything is possible at this point.

I think you are onto something though :)

I don't think they're going to explain anything about the time when the very first cylons were made, the twelve lords etc... The furthest they'll probably go back is when the 5 were on earth. We'll be lucky to find out who the cylon god is.

I think the rest of the story is going to be about the final battle between humans/rebels and the non-rebel cylons but hopefully I'm wrong. It'd be nice to see them have to go back to earth.

Yeah, I'm still a little nervous after reading Ron Moore's blog entry about how much he loved the ending of the sopranos.

I was never a big fan of that show so I probably can't comment on how fitting the actual ending was for the show, but I think BSG has so many loose threads at the moment in terms of plot and backstory that for them to just leave it all hanging as a kind of "its open to interpretation" scenario would really disappoint me.

Fingers are permanently crossed at this stage.
