Are there any rumours or announcements that the GTAIV DLC will be making it's way to the PS3? I've googled it and can't find anything about it.. Sad news...

Is really pissing me off seeing as i've bought every Gta game with the exception of London, and now i'm being denied this one :'(.

i remember reading something ages ago about it , the DLC will eventually be released to ps3 , but it'll take really long for it to happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,804 ✭✭✭Benzino

I'm pretty confident it will be released on the ps3 as well, but you'll have to wait awhile.

I think the 50million MS paid for it must have been for a timed exclusive. Cause surely Rockstar would make more money releasing it on both consoles, instead of just one...

Hopefully, seeing as i'm finally starting to get into GTA IV. Yes it did take me fron now since launch day to like it.

I somehow doubt that even if it was released on both formats, the profit would be anywhere near the region of $50 million. Seems like an excessive price to pay for just a timed exclusive, so I'd imagine it will remain a 360 exclusive...

Wasn't the $50 million for 3-4 pieces of episodic DLC or something though? "The Lost and the Damned" is only the first part I think and there's meant to be more - otherwise, it does seem like a crazy amount for Microsoft to pay. If that's the case, they could release this one on the PS3 and PC by the time the second installment is rolling out on the Xbox, but I still wouldn't hold my breath...

As far as i know this is staying on the xbox only, its such a huge pity when this sort of thing is exclusive, but its xbox exclusive not even the pc will be getting it.

Rockstar where offered $50 million, would you blame them? Id say it was a savage party to celebrate being handed an extra 50 for just doing what they do.

I've owned all GTA's, but it is business after all!

Haven't played 4 yet but all the criticism I have read on it pretty much sums up what I felt was boring about San Andreas (to an extent obviously).

Will they really be able to keep the interest up for 3 more pieces of this DLC?

I don't know... i got bored of GTA IV about a 1/4 of the way through it... it's only in the last few days i had an urge to play it again..

Pppfffttt. Who cares. If you want the DLC that badly, just buy an xbox.

I can't see what all the fuss about GTA is about anyway. Its a crap game tbh

Having seen the videos for the "Lost & The Damned" i wasn't that impressed by it.

Niko was the man, probably the best Grand Theft Auto character to date.
and these biker dudes don't seem to have the same kick ass factor.

Would'nt mind a go at though,

I have heard from some sites that the next batch of DLC will be coming later in the year to the 360 and that a disk-version, of both sets of DLC, will be coming out after that on PS3.

    All just rumours of course.

I heard something about the next GTA being so big that only the ps3 will be able to run it. Apparently they had to make GTA IV smaller for the XBOX.

You'll also find that it's pretty much lies. The 360 disc actaully has over 2GB of data that isn't used except as a buffer for faster disc drive read speeds.

Notice how he said the next GTA?

The PS3 has blu-ray, easily 50GB and more available.

The xbox.. well normal dvd disc.. heh.

Slightly more optimistic that this has been rumoured in a mag rather than some random site.

Said it somewhere else but GTA4 sold over 400,000 in the UK alone so its a tough market to ignore if their hands becoms legally unbound.

EDIT: Thats 400,000 on the ps3 alone.

If you filled up the blu-ray disc with 50Gb of data you wouldn't be able to play a game like GTA IV. It relies heavily on streaming data on the fly from the disc. The PS3 has a very slow blu-ray drive and would realy very heavily on buffer data to increase access times.

Also do you really think that MS will let Sony sign an exclusivity deal with Rockstar and vice versa? Also do you think that Rockstar would like to miss out by cutting out over 50% of the consumer base by making the game for a console with less than 50% of the market share?

Find me a reliable source for this information about a PS3 GTA exclusive because even I haven't heard anything about it and even a whiff of a rumour of that magnitude would get the gaming press in a fever.

Everything had to be made in SD so the 360's DVD could hold the data, and then the built- in upscalers would up-scale it

Is that right? Then why did the PS3 version have lower res textures and run at a much lower resolution than the 360 game and at slower frame rates?

It's not just the PS3 is more expensive so therefore is more powerful. The PS3 has severe memory management issues from compared to the 360 which means usually texture and memory intensive games like GTAIV have lower res textures. It also has a much worse GFX card which is far more important than a CPU where the PS3 has the advantage. The slow Blu-ray drive doesn't help in games with a lot of streaming due to the slow access of the drive. The best comparison is in GTAIV it has lower resolution textures than the 360 version while Little Big Planet which doesn't rely on streaming much has phenomenally high textures due to the extra space on the blu-ray.

Third party headline console exclusives is pretty much dead now. time exclusives and download content will stay but most companies now need to release on both consoles to cover production and make a profit.

Of course, they'll gladly take a big lump of money from Sony or Microsoft to launch the game first on their consoles. Take Lost Planet 2, that is going to be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Windows Live.. for now. Capcom have been very exact in their responses to whether there will be a ps3 version. I say 6 months after its released, Capcom will re-release it on the PS3 with some extra skins and maybe some bonus content.

Didn't Rockstar report losses after GTAIV or was that take-two?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,406 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It was the publisher that reported losses.

I think the big thing that killed the third party exclusives is that in this generation there isn't one console with a massive 80% market share like the last one. Also I'm not sure it's worth a console manufacturer paying an amount for an exclusive that will be higher than the amount generated from sales on the other format especially with a game like GTA.

Only gears is third party. Rest are parties owned by console manufactor

GameSpot have "Rumour Controlled" the same question:

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/blogs/rumor-control/909119209/26878866/lost-and-damned-headed-to-ps3-in-august.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;2

The only definitive answer they had is from Microsoft "The [GTAIV] episodes are exclusive to Xbox 360". However, they don't tell if that one sentence is the whole statement or just a quote from it. So, for the moment, doesn't look like it's on the way to the PS3. Then again the wording is the exact same form 2K games and co when asked about BioShock for the PS3 before the official confirmation i.e. "BioShock is a PC and XBox360 exclusive..."

I read the above three quotes to mean it IS on its way. Sony would want to save the announcemen for a more ooportune moment whilst what MS said is so inconclusive it is unreal. I mean if The DLC went to ps3 tomorrow then technically the MS statement will have been accurate in the hr and now.

the fact remains that ps3 still hasn't done anything to prove that it is better than the 360 technically.

in terms of the DLC, maybe rockstar will be able to release a special edition GTA4 in the long distance future that will include the DLC for the ps3, 360, and pc. that should attract plenty of people who buy the game again(the most successful movies box-offices were based on repeat purchases) and anyone who doesn't have or doesnt choose to have online access to the online services.

    360 upscaler >>>> than ps3 upscaler

The 360 was built with upscaling as a primary function

KZ2? If that's not a technical leg up on the 360 for the PS3 the only other thing i can think of is MAG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,564 ✭✭✭corcaigh07

I presume KZ2 is killzone, i admit i havent played it but is it really much of a step up from COD4 or Gears of War 2? no-one has released a game on ps3 and not on 360 because 360 was under-powered plus im sure no-one has noticed any major graphical differences between any game that can be compared. if anything, the 360 has better graphics for games such as the GTA HD issues.

as for MAG, i've never heard of it, presume it hasn't been released then....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

Not trying to be a jack*** or anything but I thought The Lost and the Damned was better than the main story.

Far more entertaining for me than the main story which didn't have any risky or out there element to it really.

The DLC is 360 exclusive as far as I know and there are several rumours about loop holes or some such that Rockstar might take advantage of. There are two more pieces to come.

If anyone has a 360 and wants to know if it is worth the money, it is definitely worth the money.

I'm not going to get into a 360 V PS3 debate but a PS3 exclusive one sounds like bull as they'll make far more money by releasing to both consoles and they have built their engine for both consoles which they will probably use for the rest of this generation and will optimise it for at least another GTA to release to both consoles and probably up the size of the cities with the optimisations which is similar to what they did with the GTA3 series of games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,804 ✭✭✭Benzino

I think the next GTA been exclusive to the PS3 is just a mix-up or misunderstanding. Sony have previously announced that Rockstar are working on an exclusive title for the PS3. However this title was a new ip, and not a GTA title (tho this was some time ago now, if nothing is said of it at E3, i would be inclined to think that's not happening anymore).

True but the fact is that the 360 does run at a higher resolution than the PS3 version while the PS3 version runs at a lower resolution than the 360 verison. Both games upscale to 720p but the 360 upscales from a higher resolution.

As for the Killzone 2 argument, it's a gorgeous looking game but I think a lot of it is down to some very clever design decisions. I think it takes a leaf out of graphic design of God of War and Metroid Prime. Both those games use very low resolution textures but a high amount of geometry to make the games so nice. I think Killzone 2 is doing sort of the same thing. Texture resolution is very low and enviroments are very small. However it's using the saved CPU cycles to add some nice shader effects to hide the low detail textures, add in a lot of physics objects that give a lot of weight to weapons, excellent lighting and enviroment effects and keep character models up to a very high standard. I read also that it's doing the same thing as Wipeout HD were it reduces resolution on the fly to keep framerates up in hectic scenes. It's hard to say if the 360 couldn't pull it off but I wasn't exactly blown away by the graphics, with the talk and hype I was expecting something way out of the 360's league.

Powerstation reported a couple of months back that MS and Rockstar had a six month deal.

Meaning, that Lost And Damned could be released August 31st 2009.

I might not even bother buying it, I thought GTA IV was overhyped, like most games of this generation.

Google it, all I'll say it will change online console gaming FOREVER . . .

GTA4 was over hyped but the game lives up to a lot its expectations. The initial level of detail in the game by just citizens and police officers in the game is amazing.

The online is very well done although I never play it TBH. Just because none of my other friends do and I don't really play with strangers that much. Just people I know from some of the forums I go to who I know aren't ************* :P

The lost and the damned was way better than the actual main story IMO because it contained more of the classic GTA charisma. I think the actual main story went out of its way to be safe and not cause controversy because of what was at stake if the game didn't succeed due to the amount of money for the project and the state of the company releasing it.

Lost and the Damned is much more fun.

Downloaded this and can't be arsed playing. Think I'm just losing interest in the GTA franchise, think I actually did end up playing Liberty City to death on my first playthrough. What's worse I bought Chinatown Wars too after the amazing reviews and its not clicking with me either. Think I only have time for Fallout these days now :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

Ah you'll come back to it.

I was like that with GTA:SA and GTA4 for some of it. You've reached saturation point :P

I'd recommend Fable 2 if you want a cool change. I don't usually like games like that and used to be obsessed with GTA games and I can't put it down. That is if you have a 360.

Some things in GTA4 were crap like it was kind of hard to see sometimes. I still think despite all its achievements that GTA:SA was the low point in the series because of the storyline. GTA4's story line was also weak but the lost and the damned has a very good storyline IMO.
