Hey, firstly well done to everybody running in the Cupids Dash today, ye seem to have had a great day, nice pictures too Woddle, congrats everyone.

Feeling a bit sad to be organising my training schedule for the rest of the year on Sat night especially the night that's in it....but I'm getting a kick out of seeing a plan coming together :)

So my question, as you can see from the title, is approximately when during my marathon training (Dublin 09 -26/10) should I try to fit in a half-marathon....I think I would need to do this to help me with the psyc end of completing the marathon.

From my plan June and July look good but according to Run Ireland there is a paucity of marathons around that time due to holidays etc I guess.

So anyone ever been in a similar situation or can you suggest how long before Dublin I should get this aspect of training completed/any half marathons around this time?

How about Longford at the end of August?

Thanks Odysseus, It crossed my mind (thought doing this might help with stamina for starting longer runs-I'm just toddling at the moment :) )so I thought I should ask ye guys what ye thought....there are some further north but I'd probably travel alone and so the Longford would suit me better.

So that Sunday I'd be due a 13 anyway on inspection so it would probably be a good plan. Want to set things in stone now so I have something to stick to.

I done Longford a few years ago, its a nice run unless they have changed the route. You will still have plently of time for Dublin. Though they are people here who are much better than me at the planning side, so wait and see what the others have too say.

I did Longford as my key warm-up race for Dublin last year. Excellent race, and perfect timing before Dublin.

Another good target race is Achill, which should be right at the start of your training plan - gives you a good indication of where you stand if you've been base training before training.

Cheers Peckham, I'll look into Achill too so. I suppose its best to wait and see how the training is going and decide whether one or both would be an option.

I did a five mile race today and busted something in my heel or something around the 5k mark. Was able to walk to the finish but tried running a few times and it just wasn't happening-so disappointed cos all these people were passing me and I knew I had plenty of energy if I could run but it just wasn't on today.

Had to drive home, which was ok though now I am limping badly and can hardly walk on it. Some nurofen and ice are required I guess :(
