    Robert Englund.

There was a thread about this a few weeks back and apparently Billy Bob Thornton is to play Krueger.

Robert is a legend but they will not get him to play the role again they will defo seek elsewhere and Billy Bod personally i think would be a bad choice.

There is nothing but rumors atm. No actor has been cast and tbh the one man I see filling the cardigan is Jackie Earle Haley,

Just read that the new Elm Street is going to focus on Krueger before he was murdered as oppoesed to be a remake/re-imagining or whatever. Now thats something that could be interesting.Of course that depends on who gets the role and who directs it,Id like to see it in the hands of someone like Alexandre Aja but it appears that Sameul Bayer is directing it.This will either be a good thing or an un-mitigated disaster because all he has done to date is make music videos for the likes of metallica, sheryl crowe and blink 182.

No point in hiring someone who will bitch the whole time, try to re-write the script and then refuse to promote the film if things dont go his way. Also horror films do not need big stars ever

I see where you all r coming from it will be very interesting to see how this happens and who is in it. But who could play the role? but as far as i know ed norton is most likely the one

    I presume you mean Aja?
I dont know anything about him being difficult but he directed the awesome Switchblade Romance, had a hand in Frontiers (s/p) and he directed the hills have eyes remake. Now I wasnt a huge fan of the remake but as far as remakes go it isnt bad at all.
I like his style and his penchant for blood letting.Another interesting choice for director would be Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury that directed À l'intérieur (inside) Total unknowns and they arent shy about getting nasty either which ANOES will need if its going to focus on Krueger as a child murderer rather than a murderer of teens.Hollywood generally shys away from violence against children though so its hard to know how this will work.
Of course its all rumour and speculation at this stage so its anyones guess.

Pretty sure he meant Norton ;)

I was a bit disappointed to read that Billy Bob Thornton turned out only to be a rumour, I thought it was a very interesting choice. I read some comments from Robert Englund in this month's Empire that he'll be disappointed if he sees someone that resembles the old Freddie Kruger, because there's potential to make him better with today's FX.

Just on Ajà, I loved Switchblade Romance and T.H.H.E. is a commendable remake, but Mirrors was horrendous.

Norton won't be playing Kruger. It wouldn't surprise me if his antics on the Hulk made a lot of studios seriously reconsider hiring him for such a commercial project.

Now that's a horror film and a half.

by antics do you mean the drastic improvement of the film?

here is an update: Wesley Strick (Arachnophobia, Cape Fear, Wolf) is set to script this "re-imagining," with plans to release in time for the original film's 25th anniversary. The studio is aiming for a more psychological approach. Robert Englund has not been asked to reprise his role as Freddy, and considering the studio is looking to start fresh, they will likely pick another actor to dawn the glove. Hoped to begin filming sometime in May '09. - Scripted by Wesley Strick (Arachnophobia, Cape Fear, Wolf).- It's said the film will take a more psychological approach. - It's unlikely that Robert Englund will return as "Freddy Krueger," since Platinum Dunes is attempting to "re-invent" the series and start fresh. - Once again this is a "re-imagining" of the original film, with hopes of giving the story a complete "overhaul." - Platinum Dunes (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, Friday the 13th remake) is behind this. - The franchise was also turned into a television series that ran for two seasons from 1988 to 1990, where Freddy played host to a collection of strange tales. - No relation to the Nightmare on Elm St. prequel that's supposedly "in talks" right now, although, I wouldn't be surprised if the two projects blended together. - A remake of the original 1984 Wes Craven film starring Robert Englund as the iconic Freddy Krueger.

The thing with trying to say who would be good as any charactor in a film is the fact that everybody has their own opinion on it and it's always hard to come up with somebody that every body would agree with. I think Ed Norton would be a good Krueger, but you just don't know what people are going to bring to a role, like when i first found out that Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker I was against it but look how that turned out.

I read somewhere recently that the dude who plays Rorschack in the upcoming Watchmen may be playing Freddie.

    Well said indie

Yup nothing but rumours, but I LOVE the sounds of norton or billy bob in that role x.gif They could fill it in the same way that Ledger filled in the personality of the Joker. Adding some personal sinister touches which mean his demeanour and attitude are as scary as his actions.

I've always wanted to see Freddie before he was a monster in the literal sense as the monster who molested children. With that premise this could so much more than just a cheap reboot. One thing I hope they avoid doing is humanising Freddie or trying to explain why he is the way he is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

We already know why he is the way he is though.
His mother was a nun that worked in an insane asylum/prison and was gang raped. He is the result. The bastard child of a thousand maniacs

And that's fine if that is what they continue to present as the reason for Freddy being the way he is; it's like saying he was destined to be a sick monster which is okay. What I don't want to see is suggestions that Freddy suffered from an extremely messed up childhood. Suggest that he was naturally a problem child, but don't suggest he was abused or anything like that. It humanises the character which is not what I want to see.

We got a glimpse in Feddys dead of why he is like that but they should go more int depth like growing up as a teenager leading

Doesn't need to be an a-lister.

    Someone like Corin Nemec.

I doubt it. He wrote co-wrote the Hulk so was entitled to a say in how it was made afaic.

I think he'd be an excellent FK. Krueger was a child abuser and Norton's stature (and obvious acting ability) would suit the role I reckon.

He'd be a good choice too.

I still think Billy Bob's got the look though...
