A day of firsts...

Got up this morning around 8 and was hoping to head up towards the Sally Gap today.
As I was getting ready I noticed an AnPost van pull up outside the house and was duly delivered my first pair of cycling shoes, cleats and clipless pedles from Wiggle.
Decided to put the new kit on for todays cycle but was a bit wary as I've never used these type of pedals before and heard of many people going on their ear when trying to stop.....

Anyway, decided against Sally Gap when I got to Brittas as the legs were feeling good and this could be a day to go for the 100km barrier, so, decided to go as far as Baltinglass.

The first of my firsts happened between Brittas and Blessington when a can of cider missed my front wheel by about an inch, damn lucky the f*cker in the 01 ww royal navy merc(Yes! a merc) missed as their was an artic behind which I could have been thrown under!! All I can say is he's lucky I never caught up with him.

Anyway, the rest was pretty incident free except coming over the bridge in Baltinglass when I got stuck in some traffic and went to put my foot down, and.... you guessed, *BANG* down I came for another first, only my pride damaged though ;-).

Anyway clocked up 111km today, first time over a 100k but mostly done on the flat between blessington and baltinglass, still feel chuffed!!

There's a nasty little climb on it too, nasty in, you sweep downhill and turn onto it, and if you are in the wrong gear hitting it, it's like hitting a wall

Well done on the 1st century. Lovely bike.

Baltinglass is ovely. To avoid nutters try the backroads around Eadstown the next time, or around the lake from Baltinglass to Hollywood.

Good video -- in the past week I have been slapped on the arse going down Howth hill at about 45kmh and he a MOB of kids throw snowballs at me... I'm going have to start carrying a gun at this rate.

Ah Yes the obligatory fall! I think it's happened to us all!

In fairness there is a big difference between kids throwing snowballs and cans of cider. We had a few of them (snowballs) on our own spin yesterday and it is relatively harmless (they missed me and barrabus dissuaded them from trying again with a "if you dare i'll break your fúcking nose" :D)

Nice bike dalkener and well done on the first 100km.
