Springing into March and it's already our 4th Electric Shock on the northside - this one is recalling memories of hazy dusty evenings spent amongst piles of Teutonic cardboard in Selectah Records on Crown Alley listening to the latest releases from new (back then anyway) labels like Bpitch Control. Paul Kalkbrenner was one of those wunderbar Deutsch names that stood out and there was always an extra edge to his tracks that made us put them in the 'yes' pile. Since then he has continued to release steadily and almost exclusively on BPitch Control until fast forward 9 years and we're still staying Ja to the man from Berlin. Recent release Sky & Sand EP is the main track of his 'Berlin Calling' which was his soundtrack and acting debut of 2008. In the move, Kalkbrenner plays DJ Ickarus in a "tragicomedy in Berlin of today".... His driving mix of deep techno, melodic trance (sssh!) influences and intricate musical productions have kept him in our booking minds for many a year & it's a pleasure to have him over to play live live live in the Twisted Pepper.

Playing before the Kalk man will be his longtime Dublin champion, Giles Armstrong. Second only to perhaps Andre Galluzzi in the Electric Shock man's pantheon of German heroes, Just Giles will be taking the stars from his eyes as he warms up like only the best hot water bottles can. Also on the bill will be Tests's Jay Galligan who is no stranger to the world of Berlin and all it's musical and sundry attractions. Playing in the cafe area we have the Lunar Disko thrills of Andy Doyle alongside Infinitestatemachine.com's Kenny Hanlon. These two tyros will be rocking out the disco and italo fetishes through the evening to their hearts and pint glasses content while serving up the first hour will be Stereotonic ressie Conor L.

Low and behold, it's that time of the month again where we do our best Derek Mooney impression and give to the nation. 3 double passes. Paul Kalkbrenner [Live, Live, Live]. Saturday March 21st. The Twisted Pepper. You. Know. The. Score.

Berlin Calling sees Paul Kalkbrenner's actuarial debut in the Hannes Stoehr flick. It's our favourite German film since Never Ending Story. Who composed the music for that classic cinematic adventure?

    I] Andrew Lloyd Webber
    F] Giorgio Moroder
    L] Larry Mullen Jnr

    Yo...

The competition is now closed for Paul Kalkbrenner tomorrow night. The answer we were looking for was the legendary Giorgio Moroder. Cheers for all the entries.

We were hoping to show Berlin Calling but unfortunately it was working out too expensive. They are working on an Irish release for during the year and remember kids piracy is a crime.

Tickets are selling surprisingly well after the beast of St. Patrick so we suggest you get a ticket for a tenner from tickets.ie or else Paul Johnson it down, down, down early and pay a high fiver more.
