Citrus Pulp

    Hi

I am thinking of feeding citrus pulp to dairy cows. I have never used this feed before. Can anyone give me some info on it? Can it be stored in a feed bin, if so, does it flow freely from the bin? Seeing the word "PULP", I am guessing that it will not flow from a bin! Is there a better alternative to citrus pulp in the same price range?

    Thanks

citrus pulp is quite a good feed and relatively cheap too mix it with rolled wheat and barley and soya for a good ration at the rate of rolled wheat/ barley 40% citrus 40% and 20 % soya .. citrus itself isnt very palatable ie wouldnt feed it to young calves and it is in nut form like beet pulp

Only problem is that I do not have any way of mixing rations myself. Usually I would just order feedstuff from the millers. Just thinking of any possible way to reduce costs this year.

they could probably make up this ration cheap enough you dont need a wagon to mix it the loader of a tractor will do it

We used to mix citrus pulp with home grown barley for feeding cattle. This year we changed to Oilseed rape cake, due to the higher protein content. Citrus pulp has 5-6% protein and oilseed rape cake has 10-11%. The oilseed rape cake comes in compressed nut form, just like the citrus pulp.
