Ok don't know where to post this but..
Why did Bus Éireann increase their prices by 10% in the last couple of months during a recession?????
I thought if anything they would decrease prices. I know they let a lot of staff go, but doesn't that further decrease their costs so why was there a price increase?

To help pay off already incurred debts?

By increasing their prices less people will travel meaning that there are less people to complain about the bus being late, it's a win-win situation

You will notice this more and more as the weeks go on. Indirect hits on the public to collect more yo'yo's as the gov. is near collapse.

    You'll see.

Its to put as many people off as possible travelling by bus so that the book figures will show an obvious decrease. The Government can then justify slashing the service. :)

They put up prices last year because fuel costs were so high. Now that fuel has dropped in price, will we see a reduction in fares? Will we fuck. Even at the height of the Celtic Tiger, bus timetables were still 50% fiction. I wish Irish public transport was a person so I could slit its throat.

They still lose millions every year, with their price hikes.

They don't "lose" millions, they're a State company paid for by the Exchequer. Public transport should be free, that'd save time and it amounts to the same thing anyway (paying tax is an indirect way of paying fares). No-one expects you to pay for the 10 yds. of road outside your house, after all.

It's stopped me from getting the bus. I'm not paying them €1.60 to bring me somewhere in 20 minutes when I can walk there in a half an hour.
Back when it was 90c I used to always get the bus.
