Hi all, am looking at an Educate Together School in Midleton. The ethos of the schools are appealing and give us an option that was never there when i was in school. What do others think of Educate Together schools? As far as we are aware it's a well run school but naturally being a new school and a new concept in this area are a little hesitant. Any opinions woul be appreciated. Thank you all.

My daughter is in Senior Infants with ET. We're very happy. There is another longish thread on ET schools in the parenting forum that may contain some useful info as well, located here.

The concept is over 30 years old. :)

There is a large thread about E.T in the parenting forum
    here.

As with any school I suggest you ask for a copy of thier charter and policies.

personally, as a teacher i find the ethos of the educate together schools to sound wonderful. but i know of a good few of these schools (being in the profession myself) where this ethos CAN (and i'm not saying always) mean there is a lack of discipline.
this environment in a classroom can make it very difficult for some children to learn.
and before anyone bites my head off for branding all these school with the one brush - i am not!!! i am just saying how i have experienced it, as an insider to the profession.

theres one of those "so-called" schools in my town....they are useless considerbly!
if you have doubts about those schools why dont you just go to another school anyways...there is bound to be at least more than 1 scholl in you area like???

A school is as good as the principal in many cases. Make an appt to see him/her and have a look around and you'll get a fair idea of how things are run and if it is what you are looking for. Also if you can be at the gate in the morning/afternoon and chat to other parents it will help.

Why is the school useless if you don't mind me asking soccymonster? I agree with buhookorbycrook, a school is only as good as the principal. Does anyone know anything about the principal in Midleton?

Hello there, friends of mine have enrolled with the school for September. They mentioned that after meeting the Principal they were completely convinced! He seemed very sure of what the school could offer and this seemed to impress them. I personally think people don't understand what an Educate Together School is all about. Hope this helps a little?

It's quite true that the school is only as good as the Principal.

I have experienced ET schools who left all Christian holidays/songs/even mentions of the religion out so as to not upset a minority of anti-christian parents.
I thought the ethos of ET was to include all.
If any principal isn't willing to stand up to pushy parents then avoid that school like the plague.

Hear hear....Principal leads a school correctly and strongly! The Ethos is an appealing one. Having a unruley class in nonsense!! That is pidgeon-holeing ET Schools.

Maybe the teacher was the one who was not able to manage his/her class!

I like the whole idea of these schools. Gives us as parents further options instead of religion being shoved down a child's throat -well not literally! (Not meant to be offending to anyone!):D
