Kudos for Mactivate

Mactivate just did a great job on my MacBook, fair play to them. The keyboard had been giving trouble (apparently Apple got a bad deal on that choice of plastic), and they replaced it and a dicky SuperDrive fast, and were helpful and courteous.

I had them troubleshoot my Macbook Pro just over a year ago and found them thoroughly professional - very easy to get hold of on the phone, and dropped the machine back in perfect condition.

It's up in Ballycoolin in an estate called Northwest Business Park. When I sober up (Long night in town) I will post up decent directions to them and the other main service agents in Dublin; maybe Babypink or 440 can make it a sticky.

i gave up on the Dublin service centres... now i use www.galmac.ie for all my apple servicing and found them fast and efficient... easy drop off / collect in Dublin at the Mac Shop on Merrion Sq. too

Praise to ScreenWay in Galway as well. Very snappy repair of my MBP. You should get an email from Apple soon after repair looking for feedback. Good to make use of the opportunity.

I was impressed with Dektek when I used them, but not so impressed with their 9-5 opening hours and €20 drop off fee.

So can anyone give me specific directions to Mactivate? I'm not entirely sure if the google maps location is the right one.

Also can anyone say whether they do free pick-ups?

Honestly, did you even look at their website? http://www.mactivate.ie/location.html It has a map and very clear typed directions on how to find them? Sorry for going off but I've no need for their services currently (touch wood) but did take a few seconds to look at their website!

    /Rant over :pac:/

    No need for a rant.

My confusion arose from the fact that their google maps location is different:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=mactivate+dublin&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=39.456673,93.164063&ie=UTF8&ll=53.391749,-6.371899&spn=0.014536,0.04549&t=h&z=15

not too familiar with the area so was looking for some second opinions like Ham'nd'Egger offered earlier.

Google is wrong. Their website is as accurate as it gets though

I must say , while the place of business can be a little confusing to find, once you get there these lads are great.

My MacBookPro HD went down in April 2013, and Alan recovered everything for me.... I hadn't backed-up in 3 months for various reasons, and he saved everything...

Really cooperative, and didn't cost and arm and a leg.

I've not got a LaCie Porche HD with them and hopefully they'l be able to recover something from that drive for me.

On an aside, I've now had 2 LaCie HD's ( one 2T and on 500Mb). Not what they're cracked up to be . Nothing but trouble with the 2T. It was never moved off my countertop and one day (2 weeks ago) it just didn't appear on the desktop. Full of LogicPro9 backups. Disaster....

I'll send it to the LaCie people and see what they say.

I'm a logic user too and a music fan so these are my most important things. Tbh I never understood the desire for massive 2T external drives.
All drives will fail given time. For that reason I have 5 external hard drives, three with the same stuff on there. If one dies, I'll grab another.
And yes, someone could come and rob my place and pocket the lot so I haven't really planned for that yet but for now I feel fairly okay.
Hope you have some luck with the LaCie but all mechanical drives no matter the make can have a failure.
