A friend of mine has a 04 Corolla saloon and her bag was recently stolen with her keys inside,as she couldnt open her car(she never got a spare with it) it was towed to the nearest toyota dealership, who have since quoted her eu2500 to get it sorted...:confused:

Is this right,it seems extremely expensive to me??

What would have to be replaced as she has no spare key,im presuming all locks and electrical items, but can they not get a replacement by using the chassis number,or something like that?

All advice would be appriciated, thanks lads.:)

    Thats price is right.

She will have to replace her ECU all locks, ingnition ect.

If she wants she can just get an ecu and new keys but then people who robbed her bag would be able to open her car (not start it)

Its a lot of cash, but if theres no other way what can you do i suppose..

Didnt realise the ECU had to be changed too, thought it was just the ignition that read the keycode, but i suppose the cental locking needs a signal too doesnt it.

Some insurance comanies will cover this for free, get her to check her policy.

IIRC there's no separate immobiliser ECU, its all built into the one system.

She can go cheaper by not replacing all locks ECT but it will mean that the old keys will still open the car

Either way she will still have to shell out for and ecu, its just the labor in replacing all the locks will be a good bit

You could get all the bits in a scrap yard, i had to do that on one of them last year. Just note the chassie no off the car the bits come off for furture reference. Is it a ZZE120 MODEL or diesel car?

    Check out www.autokey.ie.

They say they "have the technology to recode vehicle computers and immobiliser systems so new car keys can be programmed to the existing vehicle computer system." They also say they can do it all while you wait.

For future reference this is an easy job for most auto locksmiths.Average price around 500 euro.A lot better than the dealer price.Locksmith needs to remove ecu read code from ecu and write this code onto new key.

try KC Systems in Watergrasshill , cork . they specialise in toyota keycoding . a friend of my wifes left her corrolla verso in a garage in Tralee for some work , they mislaid the keys . toyota quoted a crazy 2k for replacement parts . it eventually ended up at KC systems in Watergrasshill , they coded new keys within 24hrs for 300euro or something . ive since used em for radio repairs

    hope this helps
