Hi people, i need help with something. I have just downloaded Audacity 1.2.6 and i have found an old microphone that my brother used to use which works fine, what i'm wondering about is that is there a piece of hardware that i can buy that i can plug the 1/4" jack from the microphone into and then pulg it into my headphone…

You can buy an adapter to convert 1/4 to 1/8 audio jacks. They are really common and it will make the lead fit into your laptop. You can pick them up in maplin for about 2-3 quid.
