I know it's much more important to think about how much power you put onto the road but as I don't have a power metre I was just wondering how much can ye guys lift?

My max single squat is 115Kg and my max single bench press is 85 kg..I weigh 63kg..

Usually twice a day. If I miss my weetabix it causes trouble though.

Cycling is for puny people. Don't take that away from us.

Last time I did one was in gym during summer. 180kg without much stress. But believe me, it makes very little difference to my cycling ability.

3 years ago I could squat 160kg and bench 80kg (I weighed 70kg). I now weigh about 64kg, can squat 140kg, bench 60kg and I am a hell of a lot faster on the bike.

Unless you are aiming to be a track rider, what you lift will not help much. I know Ciaran Power who was an excellent pro did zero weight training in his entire career. Ditto the majority of the top cyclists in the country and indeed in the pro peleton (although some might do a little in the off season for cross training and building core). The only reason I have started back with the weights is because I am not taking the racing too seriously this year.

Power in the gym does not directly relate to sustained power at the cranks (it can help, but its not the limiting factor).

T rex's of sport, benching is for MTBer's!

I could squat 170kg in my hey day, and 72kg in my gym gear ;) , and as part of a structured training plan, found weights exceptionally useful. Joe Friel plan was what I was working around with my coach. Great stuff

I can benchpress 3 climbers or 2.5 sprinters. Generally squat twice times that.

Rugby and cycling require almost 100% opposite physiques :(

    Mark Cavendish doesn't do weights.
It is not immediately obvious why Cavendish is able to dominate road sprints so emphatically. Physically, he is powerful but not superhuman; he is strong, yet he never lifts weights or does anything in fact but ride his bike.
