i was watching some of the pro-am on setanta yesterday evening and david duval was playing
does anyone know what type of sunglasses he wears and where i might be able to pick them up
i heard they are designed specifcally for golf and help to read greens better etc as there is some sorta grid thing ingrained onto them - thats gotta be worth a few shots per round?

I think he might wear these, http://kaenon.com/product?action=show_product&product_id=578

but not sure if they're custom made for him. If i remember rightly he was always a big Oakley man. The paid him stacks to wear the M Series i think.

Do many people here wear sunglasses on the course? I suffer pretty bad with headaches and migraines so probably something i should consider. I'm not a fan of playing with a hat or visor on so i normally just suffer it. On sunny days (anyone remember them!?) it can be a nightmare though.

I always wear them in the summer, I wouldn't be without them. If I don't have them I find myself squinting and that usually leads to a bad headache. I always wear a hat too. I used to wear Oakley M-Frames (such as the ones above) but I think they are a bit dated looking now. I have a different pair of Oakley's that are a little more subtle that you could wear off the golf course without looking like too much of a prat.

During the summer Graeme i wear them tee to green, but whilst on the greens putting i take them off as i cant get a line. Just like the ones below. Except i paid $40.00 dollars for mine stateside

Like you i used to get a headache on sunny days even though i thought it was not drinking water. Comfortable, strong, and dont scratch easy.

I wear shades, have to, glare is just too much for me, thus its nothing to do with 'looks' on the course. I also wear a hat, even wear one under a woolly hat if the weather dictates that a traditional golf cap ain't warm enough

Wearing traditional specs since 4 :(

I've tried oakley half jackets, with transitions lenses. They lighten/darken depending on how sunny it is. They actually made a big difference reading greens, gave very good clarity. I found them uncomfortable to wear with a cap though.

have the same oakley xlj polarized as you say they lighten and darken with the light and also reduce glare making them excellant for driving and fishing too
also lens can be removed or changed if you like
    these are outdated now

new models are called flak jackets

great investment but make sure to get a proper case only about $20 (soft vault i think its called) and you'll have em for years

Sorry lads, i already have a jacket. It's sunglasses i'm after...

    Boom... and indeed... boom!:D

Yep, rubbish. I'll have a look into those. Think i'd go for a pair that were a bit more discreet than the Duval look. It's like the Liam gallagher haircut in the 90s... it's the kinda thing you can only get away with if you're a pro/famous/on the telly. Otherwise you tend to just look an idiot.

there is a new model called the flak jacket, but the half jacket is
certainly still going and is cheaper:

wasn't aware you could get polarised transitions lenses, have never seen them
    listed anywhere?

    hi

im pleasantly surprised to see people wear sunglasses on the course. i too always squint+get headaches in the sun. ive never seen anyone wearing a pair of sunglasses on the course though. not a big fan of wearing hats but id wear them if the sun was starting to give me a headache.

id definitely look into getting a pair of sunglasses though. id probably wear them with a hat and take them off when taking shots (like justin rose does with the sunglasses on the back of his hat when taking shots).

are there any good suitable sunglasses that dont cost an arm and a leg?

    thanks

think i might buy one of them oakley pairs.

are the half jackets much use or is it worth paying the extra for the flak?

    cheers

You will get some good deals on ebay. I got a pair of Flak Jacket's for €90 from a store in England in January. The exchange rate helps.
