Cutting Off Illness Benefit .

    HI ,

Looking for a bit of advice on what to do next .

I have been out on Illness Benefit for the last four years and was recently called in to the social welfare office for a medical examination by the Deciding Officer . I got a letter in the post this morning saying that I would no longer be entitled to Illness Benefit as and from the 12th of Feb as the Medical Assessor felt that I would be fit for " Other Categories Of Work " . Further down the page it says that I can appeal this decision which my own doctor has suggested I do .

Beyond that , the letter , like the medical exam , is a bit vague .
What am I supposed to do for money between now and the results of the appeal ?
Is the appeal a further exam the same as the last one ?

Anyone have any answers to the above or any further advice ? I haven't a clue as to what I am supposed to do .

    Thanks in advance

    John

If you apply for Jobseeker's Allowance you'll be wasting your time appealing the decision as you'll be declaring in your application for JSA that you are fit for and actively seeking employment .
Better to go with yabadabado's advice and see your CWO - you'll almost certainly be paid by your CWO at the same rate as the claim you are appealing about pending the outcome of the appeal .

I've no idea whether an appeal involves another examination or not - others might be able to help you on that . I'd guess that it will just be a reassessment of the results of the second examination but that is only a guess and could be entirely wrong !

Thanks guys , the original post was made about 1/2 an hour after I got the letter and I was in a state of panic . I got the phone number of my CWO and she told me that she has seen a lot of this in recent weeks and told me to come and see her on Tuesday morning and she would help me get it sorted out .

Thanks again for the replies .
