I've had a couple of hens for quite a while and they have always teamed up in pairs until a fox caught one of them. now i have one rhode island that wanders around on her own and i want to find a companion for her. Im in the Cork area and will travel to limerick or south tipperary. I have searched the internet and the buy and sell but have had no look. Does anyone know of someone that sells them.
    Thanks..

I got three Rhode Island Red hens last autumn from a van that used to stop at cattle marts in Laois. I think they used to do other parts of the country on other days. It came from Craughwell in Galway, but I can't find the name or number at the minute. I'll have a look around and if I find them, I'll post back.

The van came from Martin's poultry farm in Craughwell. You can get them on (091) 841079. Not sure if they have point of lay birds at this time of year, but worth giving them a try.

Good luck with them. My Martin's hens are now laying an egg a day each and seem very happy.
