LUAS Spurs

It seems that there will be two Luas spurs: Citywest on the Red Line, and Fassaroe on the Green Line.

Will there be any provision for trams to go from Citywest to Tallaght, and Fassaroe to Bray? I think that having the City Centre as the only possible destination is a little short-sighted. Having these spurs link into Tallaght and Bray could encourage people to go to those towns for work/recreation instead of the City Centre. It could help decentralise the city, and alleviate congestion in town.

What do yous think? Is it a good idea, or just silly nonsense from an armchair planner?

Chances are that anyone going between Citywest & Tallaght will just have to change at Belgard.
Are the junctions being built to allow a tram to go directly?

No there are only simple junctions planned. Passengers for Tallaght from Citywest can change at Belgard. Belgard will have a bay platform, so either Citywest or Tallaght could be served by a shuttle tram and passengers for onward destinations can change there.

I would expect the same in Bray.

Depending where it stops in Fassaroe, people could just walk the short distance onto Bray...its not too far!

From what I've read on the RPA site, the answer is no they won't be able to run trams like that. The junctions won't allow for it and they are planning on running alternating services to each destination (as in every second tram from town will go to Bray and the rest go to Fassaroe). This, again according to the RPA, will lead to an average frequency of every 15 minutes from Bray and Fassaroe stations (which I think is a bit crap tbh).

Personally, I think, if there's demand there to do it, then do it. I doubt there would be very much demand from Bray to Fassaroe P & R though, and even if there were, I doubt it'd be very hasselly to change at whatever station the two spurs diverge from.
