Motivational Speeches

If you've ever played a sport competitively, you'll understand how influential a good pre-game speech from your coach, or motivational battle cry from your team Captain can be. Getting the right mix of stirring the competitive senses, inspiring effort and giving an overall sense of meaning for your fight and brotherhood amongst your team-mates are essential ingredients for inspiration.

Of course motivation don't have to come during a pre game talk or half time battle plan, it could come as a simple word of advice when a coach takes you aside on a freezing december morn, or a slogan painted on the weights room wall...

We're all familiar with the now immortal Al Pacino speech, "peace with inches", which focused on the team mentality, the power of a single unit and how individuality would ultimately destroy them. Or the coaches speech from "Miracle", inspiring the US hockey team to ignore the odds and play like kings. On the large blank walls of the Green Bay Packers weights room is painted in simple lettering the word, "Believe". And lets not forget my personal favourite motivational speech of Col. Tim Collins, speaking to 800 soldiers before they crossed the border into Iraq.

I'm starting this thread to seek out some of your favourite or memorable inspirational speeches, slogans or acts that you have come across in your sporting life or otherwise... be they real life experiences or from an obscure movie. I guess I'm a little fed up hearing the same old nonsense all the time and would like to find some new, truely inspiring words.

    The floor is yours!
