Oh god, I can't bear any more of them. I wonder how many of them there are? must be at least 1 in every 4 chick flicks.

United 93 could have done with a few of these scenes.

Funny you mention that, I saw School for scoundrels on one of the movie channels last night and got to thinking could that possibly be one of the biggest movie cliche's ever ?

You'd think a girl would find it creepy and weird if you followed them to the airport and possibly even onto the plane...

At least that's the way it's always gone for me.

Garden State ended in an airport.

It does seem to be rather clichéd though. Someone is about to get onto/leave on a plane and they suddenly are convinced/decide that they can't leave and need to be with the one they love.

In fairness though, movies in general are a bunch of clichés.

I've often wondered as well - why do security let them through without a valid boarding pass ? You try running through security in most airports i'd reckon you'd be taken down before you made it too far.

In fairnessto that movie it was clearly a parody of the cliché.
Speaking of Jim Carey movies, at the start of Dumb and Dumber he does something similar
only to end up falling out of the boarding tube as the plane had already left

It's like the ultimate sacrifice is giving up a flight you've already paid for.

Do you still qualify for the air miles?

I think Good Luck Chuck has a big running onto the plane thing near the end too.

Surely the ultimate sacrafice is saying "Here ya go Kate, you plonk yourself on this broken door here and I'll just float in the water til the rescue boats come. Cold? Nah it's fine."

If you look at it in an arty/symbolic way, the airport has kind taken over from the railway like it did in the 60's and beforehand. Although the railway is far more romantic.
