Good course, great test off the back stakes. Greens are always good and fast.

    Enjoy

I am a big fan of Christy jnrs designs. Esker Hills, Mount Wolhesley etc..
In comparison to his other courses I was dissapointed with Roganstown.
Yes, it is a good course and very tough off the back tees but I dont think its quite a good as some of his other work. Never the less if you are getting a reasonable deal there you will enjoy.

It's a good course and due to its location always seems to have a wind blowing...so at this time of year expect a gale. The 5 or 6 times I played it last year I found the greens quite slow.

The first 3 holes are tough (first is a par 4 to an elevated sloping green, second is a par 3 which is difficult to hit, and the 3rd is a very long par 4 which requires more club on the second shot than you think).

Next couple of holes are straightforward, then the par 3 7th is difficult. Walk off with a par here and it's a good score. The 12th is a tough par 4 where you're asked to hit a long-ish second over water to an elevated green. The 18th (par-5) is a good finishing hole....I stuck one OOB right there last year in a Metro Cup match with a gale force wind blowing left to right....still have nightmares about it :o

Enjoy it. Hope you get the weather.

i'd describe it as a middle of the road course - maybe 6 outa 10
christy slept through some of the design meetings i'd imagine
good test - does get pretty damp/soft this time of year
    some 'nice' water features

As a Roganstown member i hope you enjoy your visit.
IMHO the course is in good nick at the moment.
Its always windy even on a calm day everywhere else.
Last three holes can make or break your card,
    Par 4 SI3 followed by Par 3 SI17 and a Par 5 SI5 to finish.

Being a member from the start and its in good shape, except for the bunkers, really poor sand, cant hadle any rain with playing like sticky cement.

agreed , the bunkers realy let the course down , loads of sand in some a sprinkling of sand in others . and stupid looking upside down coat hanger things for rakes, that no body bothers to use.
i cant fault the rest of the course , its in great shape.

Played it off the blue tees recently and it's a cracking test of golf. Arguably as good as any of the other big new championship courses built in the last ten years in Leinster (with the exception of Killeen Castle).

Some very tough par 3s and a very tough finish - 16 and 18 in particular are very strong holes. That 18th green is something else!!
