Does my satellite dish need earthing?

We are currently nearing the end of our house build, and for TV cabling I have run cables from all TV points to a central location. The downleads from the satellite dish and aerial will also come to this location, where I plan to patch the various leads as appropriate, with a distribution amplifier for the TV aerial signal. All connections at this central location will be f type connectors.

My query is will all the cables at this location need to be earth bonded?

If you have just one fuseboard in the house then no.

    Tony,

I saw a reference to earth bonding on a US website in relation to lightening protection. Showed an earth wire from the dish and the CT100 cable being bonded into a common earth strap and the ground rod for the house. May be some form of local electrical code compliance in the US. I assume it's not of real relevance here, unless you are running a dish into different properties?

Yes you only need earth bonding at a distribution point if more than one fuseboard is used (they may have different earth potentials) . Earthing a dish is actually dangerous with the type of fuseboards we use here and some would argue that it makes it more likely to be hit by lightning although given the odds it would be hard to prove.

The dish is deliberately insulated from cable by LNB case/holder. The dish can be earthed if on wooden or mobile home. Not needed on Irish buildings.

The coax on Irish installs is NEVER earth bonded unless there is a multi-dwelling / apartment distribution system, in which case the socket at the distribution system is the ONLY point that is earthed.

Never share a single LNB/Dish between two houses without an earth bonded barrier connection meeting Irish standards. This is what Tony alludes to about the multiple fuseboxes.

In all cases, never ever bond the coax earth or coax to the dish or Dish earth.

I DIY installed my satellite dish in my garden as I could conceal it from view behind a hedge. I cemented a painted metal pole I had lying around into a hole I dug in the garden, and the dish is mounted on this. The cables run underground to the house. I am wondering whether this is okay as it is or does it require any earthing. The reason I ask is that I have seen some talk about earthing dishes in the United States but I am not sure whether these rules apply here.
