Lions Tour 2009 prices

So I was considering traveling down and supporting the Lions this summer, since I might've been in the region anyway, looked up ticket prices (unattached to packages) £200 upwards for the tests, £90 for a Midweek game in Bloemfontein against the Cheetahs and £50 for the rest of the matches. Really shocking prices, considering that my dad went to a Super14 derby game there in 2007 between the Stormers - Lions it cost £15 in Newlands stadium. Also most tickets seem to be attached to travel packages, and one website stated: "Entrance not guaranteed if you buy a ticket outside of a travel package". Disgrace.

I don't know how some South Africans could afford such prices.

Just wait. Hang fire for a bit, I've been told that the packages aren't selling well, they've been chronically overpriced...hold on for better deals.....

Seriously? hmm thanks thats good to know, I was thinking that alot of the 2000+ packages would have trouble selling. We thought it might go up instead of going down.

Hi, trying to look into this trip too, myself and a few other been toying with it without much action so far. We signed up to some "pre-booking" jiggery-pokery but not overly keen on that now given the prices being so pricey. Ideally we'd like to plan flights and accomodation ourselves (I hear tell it's fairly crucial to book all your internal flights and accomodation before travelling out there). Looking at tickets online there's a 3-test match ticket offer from England Rugby travel (one of the four "officially-licenced" operators) for £900 each ridiculous. There's other tout websites selling from £220 which you'd be best-advised to avoid methinks.
Guessing what we might do is hold out a bit longer until the operators drop they're prices. In the meantime we could look at getting flights and accomodation sorted. Although this could be tricky given we won't know exactly what tickets we'll have. This is a little high risk, high reward. Any other thoughts?

I might be going down, so chances are i'll wait until I'm down there before getting tickets. I'll be down at easter aswell so I'm gonna ask a family friend can he get anything cheaper since he's a resident, although from what I've heard its the same price for south africans.

Booking accom before you go? I wouldn't, i went backpacking there last year and we showed up to places which were fairly empty, i suppose it depends on what type of accom you're looking for.
