Advice for cancelled Ryanair flight

    HI
There were 12 of us travelling back fom Austria skiing last Tue 10-Feb, Our flight from Salzburg to Stansted(then connecting to Cork) was supposed to be flying out at 3;30. At 3:40 we were told that our flight was cancelled due to Technical reasons and that we were to be loaded onto a bus and transferred to Linz for another flight. At 4:45 after waiting outside waiting for a bus that never turned up we were told that there was no flight from Linz so we had to queue up at the ryanair desk and try and organise something. We all got stuck near the back of the queue and after an hr waiting we still hadn' t moved any bit.
I then asked a lady in an office if i could use her computer to look for flights. I managed to book flights from Munich to Cork for the following moning. We then had to get a Taxi up to Munich stay overnight and then get the flight home in the Wed morning. I was wondering what are Ryanair covered for here do i just get my flight money back for the Salzburg flight or should they by right cover all our transfers for the new flight as well seeming that they left us stranded at the very last minute, Or will my travel insurance cover everything.
I'm sure that people have had Ryanair flights cancelled in them before so what did they end up doing. What are your opinions on this situation. I was organising everything so it fell back on me to organise the new flights etc, everybody was understanding but i think Ryanair shoud be more professional and not cancel flights at the last minute if they do they should not leave people wait around for hours.
    Cheers for yer feedback.

You'll get nothing. Best you can hope for is a refund of taxes, which, once Ryanair apply their administration charge will be not much more than zero.

You independently organised alternative travel for yourself, instead of awaiting Ryanair's alternative.

Your travel insurance might cover you, but you need to contact your insurer directly.

Our flight from Salzburg to Stansted(then connecting to Cork)

First, Ryanair don't offer "connecting" flights - so they would have not obligation to get you to Cork anyway, just to Stansted.

As mikedragon32 said, they were trying to offer an alternative (ok, the queue wasn't moving fast), but you chose to make your own way.

I can't see any travel insurance covering that.

Do the EU compensation guidelines not cover this?

If your flight went tech then they are professional in not letting you fly on it.

You did not wait to see what they would offer you and went off and did your own thing. That was your decision.

Ryanair will probably not give you anything.

You could try your travel insurance but I would say you should think of the money you spent out on new flights and travel as long gone.

Would have been better to see what they offered you at the desk then made the decisions. Ah well hindsight is a great thing!
