    Hi.
I've been sky customer for past 8 years. I have old box & dish(1 output LMB) so i rang sky about the upgrade. they quoted me 200 euro. I already have a sky+ box a friend gave to me. Is it possible just to install myself & order the new card. I've seen quad LMB on ebay for couple of euro. Will they send me card. I'm not paying 200 euro for something i can do myself. My mate has the meter etc. Will sky send me card do you think if i ring them & say i have the hardware setup?

    Thanks

yes they will send you a card. but if you have your old card, then you can use that one. just ring them, give them the card number and tell them you have the sky + box etc etc.

you can even use the single lmb for sky + but you wont have the use of recording 1 channel and watching a second unless you change the lmb to a quad or an octo.
all you need to do is change the lmb, and run a second cable from the dish to the sky box in the living room. sky + needs 2 cable's connected to get the full use of it.

you wont need the meter unless the dish needs to be moved or re-mounted on the wall. if its already there, then just slide the old lmb off, and put on the quad. use a tie wrap to hold it on. works better than the stupid clip that comes with the lmb's.

if sky try to give you hassle about already having the box, then talk to a manager. they are not allowed to stop you using your own equipment. they just want to make the commission sale for the upgrade.

As long as you have an active subscription, you just need to call Sky with the new box details once you have it set up and they will activate the Sky+ features. No need to get a new card (unless of course you are going to use the old box for multi-room subscription viewing).

Thanks for the speedy reply. So they wont be looking for serial numbers of box or anything? Just the card number? I'll buy the quad LMB. The dish is grand where it is. Easy access.

So im just looking now for dual or quad LMB . Will any of them do as long as it says Quad?

Thanks so much for your help. I've had this box for 2 years just sitting there. It takes the old box bout 5mins to kick in & work!!

They will ask for the box serial and version numbers (available in the 'services' menu) in order to pair the card to the new box, if I am remembering correctly.

For technical reasons it's advisable to get a quad LNB specifically designed for a Sky dish. Also, it will have the correct fittings for the dish arm.
