Even as a massive American car fan I would take a very, very wide berth!

The Focus is your best bet. Bulletproof, great to drive, good to look at.

Run away from it. Buy yourself a nice diesel

If on a budget I'd rather look at a Kia, Hyundai or Chevrolet than the Neon. They were poor when new so I cannot image they have matured well with age.

I had one for a while. Solid and reliable (as American cars tend to be, given the mileage Americans put on them), reasonably good handling (a decidedly un-American trait), usually fully loaded (automatic, A/C, electric everything, etc), nice big boot and quite comfortable for long drives, but rather thirsty, poorly finished interior (the plastics feel like they came from recycled Tic-Tac boxes) and patchy build quality elsewhere.

Go for it if it's a good price, otherwise look elsewhere.

Geely. Great name for a car - in China, maybe. :D

    Honest John on the Neon.
