Could someone tell me if you are getting your house rewired is the Esb meter always moved to a place more accesible

Also does the esb charge for changing the location of Esb meter.

If so is it possible to rewire a house without moving the Esb meter thus saving the ESB charges.

And if u are dividing a house into two seperate apartments does the ESb charge for each new meter and what is the cost roughly

    Thanks in advance for replies

ESB networks will charge you 190 euro to come out and reconnect you at a new meter location. Your own sparks will do the donkey work, price depends on difficulty etc.
You don't have to move the meter to a more accessible location, unless it is somewhere like under the stairs or if the cloakroom where it was is now a w/c for examples. your sparks will advise if the location contravenes current regs.
To change your house to 2 apartments will require a new connection, approx 1900 euro IIRC.

What about if u wanted to change house into 3 apts is it still only 1900 or do ESB charge for each connection and 3 meters?

I was under the impression that if getting a house rewire the esb is always moved to outer wall where it is accesible for Esb to read meter without entering house

    Thanks for reply

For every new connection the ESB charge so they will charge full price again if you make a third apartment. If you want to move the meter out you incur the costs & arrange the extra work with your electrical contractor. You don't have to . If the Electrician has to change the cables out of the meter for the new board to comply with the regulations the ESB also charge for that call out to do it

you wouldn't always move the meter outside on a basic re-wire if the existing location is ok.the esb service would usually then need to come in underground as well for this. if you're converting a house to multiple apartments thats a different story again

For a simple re-wire moving the meter is not required. Adding another meter or two is a different story they would want it to the code of practice standard.

You can move the meter position but not necessarily have to bring the service underground once its an existing service. It can be clipped down the front of the building and into the meter cabinet that way.

haven't done the meter that way for a while.my understanding was it was ok if the esb were happy with the 'condition' of the existing service .must have a look at code of practice see if it's there now
