I'm booking at the moment for this season and have been offered a chance to book ski rental et al right now through directski. I've been skiing once before and have a question about the all inclusive Beginners Ski Pack. I know this includes lessons etc but are the lessons exclusively for people who havent skied before? Or would they have various levels of people. I wouldn't fancy booking this pack only to discover that I'll be learning to snowplow all over again.

A learn to ski pack usually is for people who have NEVER skied before.

There are a few exceptions to this as a few companies offer LTS packs in Arinsal Andorra which are for various levels.

I would ring them and ask them to clarify exactly what theirs consists of.

If I were you I would book into ski school when I arrived. They will then grade you and assign you a class.

The lessons that you pre-book via the tour operator are not pre-designated as being for a particular ability level, it's just that they call the bundle as "Begginers Pack". The lessons will be provided completely seperately from DirectkSki after they tell you where you need to turn up on the first morning, your then in the hands of the local ski school and they will put you in the group appropriate to your level. The only thing is that they might have intermediate lessons starting at a different time of day from the begginer ones, but you'll be able to sort all that out on the transfer bus when your speaking with the rep.

The lift pass included might be more restrictive than you need. At least this was the case for me in Söll a few years ago.

my two cents in this argument is that for the first trip i went on i found the ski school useless, after that i did not take a group ski school. Saved my money and went for one or two private lessons, usually with one or two from the group i was travelling with, found it much better. For the first trip it is usually a good place to start.

Yup, after further checking the beginners lift pass doesn't cover the whole are.

If you are happy enough getting about an unknown mountain on your own with only the piste map to guide you then you may well be better off getting a couple of hours private lessons on the second day or something. Especially if there is someone else in the group who is approximately the same level and you can then share the cost.

My 2 cents. For your first couple of times skiing, it's probably worth taking the beginner's ski pack, just so you can harrass the rep if there are any problems. Just because you have an all-in pack does not mean you have to put up with ski boots which don't fit or an instructor who pisses you off. Get them changed until they are right.

After that, it's better to book stuff separately, to suit yourself. I rarely pre-book anything, even in peak season, as I'd rather see what was available and would suit me. You don't lose money doing that.

Just back from Soll yesterday and the direct ski learn to ski pack is for people who have never skied before. We had booked this and had to upgrade on the first morning which meant changing the school lessons and also the lift pass. The beginner learn to ski lift pass was for 5 days as the first day is just spent on the nursery slope with no using of buttons lifts etc. The upgrade lift pass is for 6 days as if you have skied before you will be using button lifts or the main lifts on the first day.
