Right so on sunday I slid on some Ice and my 02 focus went into a path. No body damage thankfully but the front left wheel took a serious bang. Got it towed to the garage yesterday and the machanic tells me yesterday that the lower wishbone is damaged, the barrings? is busted and the steering rack is also damaged. He said he couldnt give me an estimate then. But im hoping someone here can. I know he wont rip me off, he is a distant relation. Im just curious would anyone have a ballpark figue for me?

    Cheers, Dan

without seeing the car and exactly what is gon and what can be repaired over replaced, thats a real real hard one to ballpark, I know a lot about repairs and wouldn't even think about quoting you for that without seeing the car...

IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WITHOUT ALL OF US SEEING THE CAR. do you fancy towing the car around the country for guesstomations???? wait for the proper estimate from the person looking at your car.

Google the various parts and see how much they are. Add a little something for labour.

Eh.....he was only asking, easy on!!!

OP, wishbones and bearing packs wont be too much, but if the steering column is damaged that could set you back a bit. Make sure to get your geometry reset anyway!!:)

If it needs a power steering rack that is not a cheap item, you might be able to get a used one though. When the car is stripped down he might find other damage. Things can add up very quickly if he finds something like a bent subframe that needs replacing.

I'd say you're talking about a 4 figure sum in any case. And with a 7 year old Focus you might be getting close to insurance write off territory.

Fair enough...sorry for outburst. My point is a ballpark figure can lead to more confusion than help on damage/accident repairs. No two accident jobs are ever the same(as opposed to clutch replacement/servicing etc) on a similar model car. A custumer will always want lowest figure quoted no matter what
damage done so a mechanic will need to inspect the car properly before giving estimate which he/she will be held to.
To assume a garage needs time to think about how to ripp you off is wrong.
If your 02 focus was turned over and had damage to all panels/airbags popped etc. then it may be possible to quickly access your postion ie w/o.
Untill then wait for a proper examination first and take it from there.

Thanks for all the helpfull answers.
Im just back from the garage the wishbone has been done. Just waiting on the steering rack. Might be ready for tommorow. It will be a second hand one from the same model. 400 for the lot. Told me it would be treble if it was a new rack
