Changing to married name

    Hi all,

I am getting married in about 6 months and just thought of something today… I’m still a while off, but wanted to get people’s opinions on this.

I will be changing my name when I get married, and there’s no reason to keep my old name in work (as in, I am not tied with any profession such as doctor, architect etc). I have an admin/support type job, which would mean that I am currently on my maiden name email address, but want to change it to my married name after the wedding. There would be a few people, clients etc, who would know me by my maiden name, so may get confused if I suddenly change this on my email!

Just wondering, do you think my workplace would have a problem with this, or would it cause hassle? Or do people generally use their maiden name in this situation but married name on all other documentation?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this!

    Hi StroppySu,

You can do what you like really. If you want to change it, just ask and they should do it for you. I changed my name and they changed my email address and logins etc. People were confused the first time they got an email from me with my new surname but after that they got used to it.

I've changed it at work and use it most other places but haven't got around to changing my bank accounts as yet. There's really no pressure either way so do it at your own pace.

Hope you're enjoying the leadup to the Big Day.:D

My wife changed her email address and all that stuff, and her IT department just set her old email address as an alias that redirects to her new address.

I know lots of people who keep their maiden name at work as well though - it's completely up to you.

    first off congratts :)

secondly, its no problem for a lot of people in my job, i work in the IT dept so we get lots of requests to change maiden names off the phone system and network/email addys.. i think its commom practice now at this stage so every company should be able to handle the changeover without much bother!!

all the best for the future :)

Change it. My email signature is e.g. Mary Ryan but when I reply or send emails they come from Mary (Kelly) Ryan. I will leave it like that for a few months.

My problem was that people were asking me my name and I said Mary Ryan but my email address was mary.kelly etc.
