When they say they want proof of address, a bill for example, will a bill in my parents name be proof of address?

I think they would want to see your name on a utility bill not your parents..., my brother doesn't get bills (all in landlords name) so he opened a post office bank account, waited for the paperwork to come through and the welfare accepted that....

No that would be proof of your parents adress - nothing to do with you.

Don't worry they will accept one of your bank statements or credit card bills as proof as adress (has to be dated within last 3 months)

If you had a job within the last four years, ring Revenue and ask them for a p21 for the year you were working and theres your proof of address. :)

If the address for you on their IT system is the same as the one you're currently residing then you are not obliged to bring in proof.

    Revenue or Social Welfare?

Social Welfare - they changed this last year - if you tell them your address and it matches what's on their IT system (and it's in the area of the dole office) for you then there's no need to bring in bills.
