Although I'm terrible it it so far (getting owned far too often!). I'll most likely pick this up through steam.

    First vote, woot!

Anyway no, I'm not buying it because this is not DoW2, this is CoH40k. I don't like the gameplay change (was a reason why I never played more then a few maps in CoH either) and there are some serious inbalances (Assault Marine much?).

One of the best parts of DoW was the fact you could create big armies for some proper Waaah with da boyz and you could recover if you made a mistake. In CoH40k you go for the energy links, keep them, and your opponent has lost the game no recovery possible.

Add in the fact that single player is more about going around "with your hero killing creeps for exp" and the whole idea of this being DoW is ludicrous. DoW was a dark future where you battled on a doomed planet while trying to uncover a plot. The ground was filled with corpses and you slayed orcs by the hundreds holding your ground in the name of the Emperor, not a "woot my Commander gained another level so now he can tank the zergling commander!".

Forgot to add, original DoW intro is still by far my favorite and Relic lost a buy on release customer with this change (and I know I'm not the only one who're refusing to buy it due to hating the new game mechanics, will be interesting to see how it sells compared to DoW et al).

Calling it COH40k seems like a compliment to me Nody :) I know alot of ex-DOW and COH players have issues with the multiplayer though.

Really enjoyed/enjoying the beta. Latest patch sort of screwed things up a bit but will be fixed on the Day 1 patch no doubt.

While it lasts, I'll enjoy playing with two other mates on 3v3, all of us Hive Tyrants, typing away to the other team that Space Marines are OP, as our venom cannon armies blow up their bases.

Yeah I'll be getting it but they really need to sort out the match making system, I'm sick of being stomped in the first 5 minutes in 3v3s by a team made up of ranks 25,22,28 while on my team it's 3,5,1, wtf is up with that ?!

They also need to balance the req system a little more too, at the moment players are getting way too much req and are spamming certain OP units such as Tyranids with Venom Cannon for example. The Ork Kammando game breaking bug needs to be fixed too it's a bit silly that it wasn't fixed in the first patch (if it was even known about is another question).

In regards to Coh40K comment, yeah it feels like Company of Heroes but IMO Coh brought a lot of new gameplay mechanics that were brilliant such as the armor deflection and area damage of vehicles (which I can admit could be pretty frustrating at times), the ability to man machine guns after the crew had been killed and pickup fallen special weapons such as AT guns and Anti-Infantry weapons etc Some of the features are gimmicky such as the out of control vehicles but I feel they added to the immersion of the game, who didn't like watching a tank swerve out of control through a building and explode ? :D. For example, when someone rolled out a Tiger it was a huge threat but in Dow2 when someones throws out a predator it's seen a a little set back as two rockets or so will pretty much put it out of action which is desperate for a T3 tank.

Don't be daft, Eldar are OP. Hive Tyrant needs a buff. Nukes or something.

If you like CoH style game yes, but to me DoW and CoH where to very different style of games. To then make DoW 2 a clone of CoH makes it CoH40k instead of DoW 2 for me :)

Nothing wrong with the game play if you like it but as noted I don't and hence this is not DoW 2 for me (maybe DoW 3 will be, who knows?) and hence I've lost a game generation sadly.

This is too similar to COH for me to bothered with. Don't get me wrong COH was a great game just I've pretty much have played COH to death and this seems like a watered down version of COH.

I don't think this has the depth of COH, so I'll give it a pass.

As for it not being true to Dawn of War the original, you could argue that but you could argue that Dawn of War was not true to the original tabletop game which Dawn of War 2 is.

I'm a sucker for games that pay great attention to detail and presentation. Which this does in spades. Plus when there's a load of buzz around a new game I find it hard to abstain.

I would have liked to see more game types, as I can see it getting quite repetitive. More maps and more imaginative maps would be nice. CoH was great for battles in towns with great chokes points and lots of buildings to jump into.

All depends on which generation you go for (my split for generation). Gen 1, true, that one was more about a squad or two. Gen 2 was the era of Lord of Doom and the never ending game of modifcation set up which I guess you can say this is as well (at a much smaller scale). Gen 3 would be the streamlined version which was DoW 1 where you had squads fighting squad but not Epic in size. We can go the other way as well with Space Hulk, Gorkamorka etc.

The point though is that DoW 1 was in given style of the game and DoW 2 is not, good or bad up to the user. Hence why I called it CoH40k (it is all the 40k Universe after all) but it is not DoW 2 for me which would imply a follow up to DoW 1 with same scale and style etc. Compare that to the RA1 to RA 2 to RA 3 series. RA X don't change the fundamental set up of the game of base building, army building, crush the enemy. They all go with turrets, barracks etc. but updated in strategy, style and units.

Still playing CoH and won't be dropping it for this.
A more accurate name than CoH40k would be CoH40k lite. It is severely dumbed down from CoH and as a result has lost a lot of the tactical elements that make CoH so good.

It's early days for a steamlined game with varied tactic's but on that note I have seen two or three match's against the same Eldar player where he decimated the other team.

I'm not too sure what he's doing, but it seems to revolve around the Warp Spider Exarch, two or three squads of Guardians and Plasma grenades. I don't think I have seen any Nid player that wasn't froze out quite quickly with large squad losses.

I suppose its relative, but there seems to be a few ways atm to which there is no counter.

Someone told me you can only save once during the campaign is that true? Its not mentioned in any of the reviews I've read.

as someone who owns every game released to do with warhammer (except firewarrior no ps) i found this game to be on a par with maybe rites of war in my enjoyment factor.

the game has been hacked and slashed into a shadow of its former self, Soulstorm was excellent and i dont know how they went from that to this.

Unluckily i bought it before the beta and couldnt get a refund so im stuck with it, however the completist in me would have bought it anyway.

Only 4 armies means they are going to milk us dry again on DLC and expansions :/ maybe in the next expansion they will make the game enjoyable.

It autosaves between each mission, but you can't save during the missions.

I've found that no matter how brilliant you think a game is, somebody will always think it's crap. Bioshock taught me that I think.

**** the reviews, I love this game. Both mutiplayer and single player. It's better than the first DOW. I don't give a monkeys that it's just one faction playable. This game will grow, like it's predecessor and I'll buy into it, happily.

Firewarrior was released for PC as well but it was such a bad game I could not stomach to play past even the first "boss" encounter in it (and I usually do complete FPS games). It ranks up there with the Red Alert FPS (actually the RA one was semi decent come to think of it, FW simply sucked).
the game has been hacked and slashed into a shadow of its former self, Soulstorm was excellent and i dont know how they went from that to this.
It was intentional and they kept repeating that in the interviews (which is why I did not preorder it when it was possible before the beta).
Only 4 armies means they are going to milk us dry again on DLC and expansions :/ maybe in the next expansion they will make the game enjoyable.
I would not expect the game to change to DoW1 with the expansions, it will only be the standard "single player campaign + new race" set up.

I loveing thing campaign so far,I love how you have to keep an eye on units and really put them to work,Is it only possible to have 4 squads though?can you have more than 4?I know when you capture those victory points you get reinforced for any units which died.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

there are some missions where your other squads show up but you can only bring 4 into each one

I CBA buying it as the last DOW expansion was so badly handled I dont trust the makers basically.

In addition Its not DOW that's updated anymore, its a different game so epic MEH to it.
